Chapter 108 – The East Window
Lexie came out of the hospital when it was already dark.
“Lexie?”
A familiar voice came from behind her, and she froze for a moment, turning around to see Flora.
Flora was carrying a thermos box and had just come out of the parking lot, looking like she was heading towards the inpatient unit.
“Did you come to see Myles?”
Lexie frowned and shook her head.
[Something came up and I came over to take care of it].
“I thought you’d figured it out,” Flora’s face immediately sank, “what exactly did you say to Myles that he suddenly dropped the lawsuit and stopped suing, and he’s going back to his country for treatment at the end of this month.”
Lexie was speechless.
I don’t know how to tell Flora that I’m full of regret, and I probably don’t have to, because a belated apology can never undo an existing mistake.
“Where are you going this minute?”
[Go home.]
Flora nodded, “Okay, just in time, Myles had asked me to forward something to you, now that you’re here, go get it from him yourself.”
Lexie was slightly stunned.
Seeing her hesitation, Flora was furious, “He’s leaving soon, and you’re not even willing to see him? Have you fed your conscience to the dogs?”
[That’s not what I meant.]
“Then hurry up.”
With that, Flora shoved the thermos into Lexie’s hand.
Carrying the thermos box, Lexie entered the ward.
Flora is right, Myles is leaving, even if it is to say goodbye, she should come to see him.
In the ward, Myles was sitting by the window reading a book when the wheelchair beneath him stung Lexie’s eyes.
She was stunned and stood in the doorway for a long time.Owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
I don’t know if there is a psychological sense, Myles suddenly turned his head, then saw Lexie, also stunned for a moment, eyes brightened, “Lexie?”
Lexie felt as if her legs weighed a thousand pounds, and it was hard to take the steps to go inside.
[Flora asked me to bring it to you. She said you’re leaving at the end of this month].
Myles’ eyes fell on the thermos box and his eyes darkened a bit.
“Well, the doctor recommended that it is better to go abroad for treatment, and all the hospitals there have been contacted.”
[That’s good.]
“By the way,” Myles pulled a wooden box out of the bag at his side and handed it to Lexie, “here’s your stuff, intact.”
Looking at the wooden box, Lexie’s heart was sore.
When she decided to fake her own death, she asked Myles to keep it, the only thing her mother had left her.
[Thank you.]
“The Alan thing, I’m dropping the case.”
Lexie nodded, [Heard from Flora.
“Don’t you … have anything more to say to me?”
[You go abroad for good treatment and take care of your health].
Lexie clutched the wooden box, turned around and walked away.
She was afraid that if she stayed any longer, she would not be able to hold back her tears any longer and they would come out in a raging torrent and would not end.
Myles’ voice came from behind her, “Lexie! I don’t believe you’re really in love with Alan, and I don’t believe you’re asking me to drop the charges because of him. Before you leave, can’t you tell me the truth?”
Lexie’s hand trembled as she held the door handle, but left with determination.
In the cab, Lexie gritted her teeth with a deadly grit, her eyes red.
Looking at the hospital that was getting farther and farther behind me, tears could not be contained and fell down.
A twinge of pain in her heart, indescribable pathos spreading through every vein.
It’s too weak.
In the midst of the world’s countless artificially created rules, she and Myles are like a small boat, swaying and ready to be swallowed by the waves.
The Howard family is the abyss and Alan is hell.
She is already in hell, Myles is the only light, even if from now on she can only watch from afar, she hopes that the light can exist peacefully on earth, for a long time.
The sky rained down and covered the city.
It was completely dark by the time Lexie arrived home.
“Where did it go?”
Upon entering, Alan’s voice echoed in the living room.
Lexie changed her shoes with a start.
[Went to grandma’s.]
“Yeah? Not back until now?”
[There was an incident on the way, so it was delayed.
“Did something happen on the road, or did something happen to someone, so that you couldn’t leave?”
Alan got up from the couch, a cold glint in his cold eyes.
Lexie shivered and took a half step back, [I don’t know what you’re talking about.
“Still having a good time with that man today?” Alan approaching, tall body like a huge dark cloud, even if not yet approaching, see the same are oppressive people can not breathe.
He was angry, even furious.
Starting with Lexie’s single-minded focus on work and her lack of concern for his affairs, starting with all the time she spends outside of work, either visiting her grandma or going home and falling asleep …
This anger could no longer be contained until today, when she learned that she had gone to see that man again and the information she had suddenly received began.
Myles is already leaving J City, I won’t see him again, I’m just going to get one of my things back, I really don’t mean anything else.
Lexie ignored her grandmother’s advice and fumbled to pull out the wooden box from her bag.
“What is this?”
[It’s my mother’s belongings, which were placed with him before, and he returned it to me, and it will never matter again.
“Why did your mother’s relics end up with him?”
Lexie was viciously stunned.
How could she forget that the significance of this relic is not trivial.
Outside the window ‘boom’ the sound of a thunderstorm fell and the rain became more intense.
Alan, however, was not just going to ask about this relic, he said coldly, “I heard a joke today that the deputy director of the Detective Bureau bought a corpse on the black market.”
Lexie winced violently and shivers began to run through her body.
“You can’t tell me about the relic, can you? Then let me tell you why it’s at his place!”
Alan suddenly turned gloomy and slammed a piece of information down on Lexie’s body with a splat.
“Clatter” a, information like snowflakes fluttered scattered all over the ground.
Lexie saw only a few of the photos and instantly turned ashen.
He knows all about it.
The fake death, he knows all about it …
Alan fiercely pinched her chin, pressed her against the wall, and with a ‘thud’ of impact, growled low, “What exactly did you want to do when you drove down the mountain the day of the accident?”
“Say it!”
It was as if he had forgotten that Lexie was mute and couldn’t speak at all.
The low growl echoed in her ears, and Lexie only felt as if her nerves were bursting and her mind was buzzing.
“Step by step, golden cicada, elopement are arranged so watertight, how come I didn’t find you so deep-rooted in mind before? Your friends are all so capable?”
“Hmm?”
Alan’s hand tightened more and more, and the veins on the back of his hand pulsed wildly.
Lexie’s throat tightened so much that she made a whimpering sound and a face that rose to a bruise.
Those eyes that were about to stare out in mournful despair.
What it’s like to be more desperate than death.
It’s probably when you’re being choked by your beloved and pushed to the point of no return.
