Chapter 38: A little Jealous
Chapter 38: A little Jealous
Fortunately, the “car accident” that happened in front of the restaurant hadn’t done any damage, so
Claudia just put it behind herself and reminded herself to be more careful from now on.
After all, Conrad was safe, and that was the most important thing.
However, Kim still felt anxious about it. She went to the restaurant to get the surveillance video of the
entrance and noted down the license plate number of the car that night.
The next day, Kim went to the police to report this case. The police checked the license plate number
and told her the owner of this car had reported the loss of his car ten days ago. Therefore, the accident
was designed by someone else, not him.
Kim heard that and her heart jumped to her throat. Since someone designed the accident and it didn’t
cause any damage, did that mean Claudia and the baby were still in danger?
Just as thousands of dark thoughts flashed into Kim’s mind, the policeman added, “Another gentleman
just checked this license plate number too!”
“A gentleman? What’s his name?”
“His last name is Cooper, and he’s a famous surgeon of Central Hospital!” The policeman kept
Marshall’s name card, which was placed on the desk, so he remembered him instantly.
Kim understood and gave a smile. It seemed that Marshall still had feelings for Claudia.
In the Crawford Group’s building, a female secretary stopped Kim outside the president office and said,
“Miss, if you’re looking for President Crawford, he’s not here now.”
“He’s not here?”
Kim glanced at the clock, and it was 10 a.m. Ben, a workaholic, actually hadn’t come to work at this
point.
“Could you tell me where he is now, if you don’t mind.” Kim asked.
The female secretary shook her head apologetically, saying nothing.
A little upset, Kim took out her phone. Unfortunately, she didn’t have Ben’s number. But if she called
Claudia and asked her about it, she wouldn’t tell her for sure.
Kim knew Claudia so well after all these years. No matter what happened, she carried all the burdens
on her shoulders, unwilling to show her soft side to others.
Sometimes, it made one’s heart break to see her undertake everything despite herself.
Just when Kim didn’t know what to do, someone came.
“Hello, Miss Lewis!” The female secretary rose to her feet with courtesy and greeted Hanna with a nod.
Kim looked back and happened to meet Hanna’s eyes. The latter didn’t look away but responded her
with a friendly smile.
The female secretary explained to Hanna why Kim was here and told her Ben hadn’t arrived yet.
Hearing that, Hanna asked, “So, you’re Miss Moe, right? Why do you want to see Ben?”
Hanna said that in a very polite tone, and she was behaving herself decently, but Kim’s heart skipped a
beat the moment she heard Hanna calling him “Ben”.
Kim felt uncomfortable.
However, she held herself back and replied faintly, “Well, I need to talk to him about something.”
The next moment, Kim was about to leave, but Hanna blurted out, “Is it urgent? Could you tell me
about it?”
Kim stopped and looked back at Hanna sternly. “Tell you about it?”
The female secretary was aware that the two were in a delicate position, so she left knowingly.
When only the two of them were left, Hanna explained, “Please don’t take this the wrong way, Miss
Moe. I just want to know if it’s something urgent, so that I can decide whether to give you Ben’s number
or not.”
“Oh, I see!”
Kim studied Hanna’s face closely, and finally stopped at that pair of sparkling eyes of hers. It was true
that Hanna looked gentle and sweet, but how come Kim felt that there was something... wrong with this
girl?
“Never mind. If I want to get President Crawford’s number, I’d just ask Claudia about it! After all, she’s
Mrs. Crawford!”
Kim emphasized the word “Mrs. Crawford” deliberately, as if she was warning Hanna of something.
However, Hanna didn’t show any annoyance, but replied, “So you are Claudia’s friend, Miss Moe! Let
me give you Ben’s name card.”
Hanna took a platinum name card out of her handbag and handed it to Kim.
Kim thought to herself. Hanna actually took Ben’s name card with her! What’s more, there seemed to
be more in her handbag.
This was Ben’s name card.
How many people had his name card in this city?
Kim took the platinum name card and felt its smooth texture, but her eyes were wandering over Hanna.
“Miss Lewis, forgive me if I’m being too straightforward, but I wanna tell you something.”
“Go ahead.”
“I wonder if you’ve ever heard about a ring called 'Queen Josephine', a piece of invaluable jewelry that
everybody desires?”
Hanna frowned slightly. “I wonder what you’re going to say, Miss Moe? Just tell me the whole story.”
“Back then, Napoleon wanted to give this ring to his beloved wife, Josephine, hoping that they could
spend the rest of their lives together and that their love would last forever. But meanwhile, he had many
affairs. It’s said that there was a lady he loved the most, called... You must have heard these stories,
haven’t you, Miss Lewis?”
As a smart girl, Hanna understood what Kim meant at once.
She didn’t answer Kim but smiled faintly and kindly.
As Hanna was smiling, shivers ran down Kim’s spine. In Kim’s opinion, this woman was extremely
shrewd, and not kind at all!
The next moment, Kim put her cards on the table. “I totally understand that President Crawford and you
might still have some feelings for each other. I also understand that it’s hard for everyone to forget his
old love. But you need to understand one thing. President Crawford is married, and no good will ever
come from being the other woman!”
Hanna chuckled. “It turns out that you have such an extreme prejudice against me!”
“This is neither a prejudice nor a warning...”
After all, Kim was an outsider. Since she had nothing to do with them, Kim wasn’t qualified to warn
anyone. She just concerned herself with facts but not with Hanna.
After that, Kim went on, “It’s just a piece of friendly advice. After all, a mistress’ happiness is written in
water, and she will come to no good end. Since you’re such an amazing girl, Miss Lewis, you don’t
want that shit to happen to you, do you?”
On the surface, Kim seemed to be paying Hanna a compliment, but in fact, she was giving her a stern
warning.
Hanna kept smiling friendly and replied, “I’m so glad for Claudia to have such a good friend like you,
but at the same time, I’m a little jealous as well.”
“I’m afraid there’s something more you’re jealous of, Miss Lewis!” Kim gave a cold and mocking smile.
At last, before she left, Kim said something that kept lingering in Hanna’s ears.
Kim warned earnestly, “You can fool the innocent, kind Claudia, but you can never fool me. We’re both
women, and I can see through all your tricks. Look out for yourself!”
The last remark was brief but to the point.
Kim said so because she was not sure whether Hanna had designed the accident, but her instinct told
her that this woman was no ordinary mistress, but a tough one!
Meanwhile, in the Evans House, Amber was lolling back on the couch, watching the picture taken last
night on her phone. In the photo, the man was clutching the woman to him, while the woman pressed
herself against the man’s chest in a panic.This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - ©.
Watching the subtle facial expression shown on the woman’s face, Amber gave a smug smile. She
always had a hunch that Marshall still loved Claudia, and now the photo lent support to her theory.
Claudia could never deny it once she sent this photo to Ben!
“Amber, why are you still in your room? Get ready! Don’t you have a gathering this afternoon?” Blair’s
voice came from outside the door.
It was now that Amber realized she had a gathering in the afternoon...
She cast another look at the picture on her phone. Now it was getting more interesting!
