Chapter 0018
Hunter furrowed his brows and spoke in a low, serious tone, "What's going on?"
"Mia bought trending topics accusing me of winning my dance award by sleeping my way to the top! And that I'm pregnant with some rich man's child! Now my reputation is ruined. I'll never set foot on a stage again. My career, my life-It's all over! What's the point of living anymore? I'm going to end it!" Jenna screamed hysterically.
Hunter's expression darkened immediately. "What trending topics? What are you talking about?" He was completely clueless.
"You should ask Mia! She's behind all of this, so she knows" Jenna's voice was loud with anger, even through the phone.
"Calm down. I'll ask her," Hunter replied before ending the call.
Mia had been planning to close her eyes and rest for a moment, but after hearing the exchange, she couldn't shake a growing sense of unease. What was Jenna pulling now?
It was no wonder Mia was feeling sensitive. Jenna was always dramatic and manipulative, constantly calling Hunter to tattle on her.
Just as Mia was lost in thought, Hunter's voice broke through, sharp and accusatory. "Mia, why would you do this? What do you gain from ruining Jenna's reputation?"
Mia paused for a moment to process what he was saying. It seemed like there was a new scandal on the
rise.
"If Jenna had that much money to throw around, she should just give it to her instead of wasting it on buying trending topics. Honestly, she must be out of her mind," she thought.
"Mia, don't think just because Grandpa's got your back that I won't deal with you," Hunter's tone was ice-cold, his frustration clear.
Mia felt her patience wearing thin. "You have a whole team for this kind of thing, right? Have them investigate. You'll find out soon enough it wasn't me."
Sometimes Mia genuinely couldn't understand it. Hunter was such a sharp, intelligent man, yet whenever Jenna said something completely illogical, he would believe her without question. Mia even started worrying about Hunter's judgment. What if it was hereditary? Hunter pulled the car onto the shoulder, turning on the hazard lights. His tone was cold. "I'll get to the bottom of this. If you're behind it, Mia, I won't hold back."
Just like Mia, Hunter couldn't figure out why she got along well with everyone else in the Jasper family, but she and Jenna were always at odds. It was as if Mia went out of her way to make Jenna's life difficult. never showing any mercy.Property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Mia, tired of hearing the same threats over and over, sighed. "And if it turns out Jenna staged this whole thing, will you hold her accountable the way you would me?"
Of course, she already knew the answer. Jenna was his golden girl, and no matter what, he would never truly hold her responsible.
"Jenna's too kind-hearted to pull something so vicious. Hunter said firmly, not even entertaining the possibility that Jenna was involved.
In his mind, Jenna was still the kind-hearted girl who had risked getting punished just to sneak him a bun when they were kids. She had saved him back then, and in his eyes, that meant he owed her, it was only right to treat her well. "Oh, sure. She's the sweetest person in the world. Everyone else is just a villain in comparison," Mia said sarcastically, her mood bitter. "She's hurt, Hunter, Hurry and go comfort her."
No matter what Jenna said, Hunter believed it. Even if Mia tried to explain herself, it would fall on deaf ears. Mia couldn't help but wonder what kind of spell Jenna had put on him. Annoyed by her defiance, Hunter snapped, "Get out of the car!"
Mia glance
out the window at the pouring rain, her heart sinking as she instinctively clenched her fists. Just take me home first."
They were on the highway, and if Mia got out now, she wouldn't even be able to hail a cab. The area was far from the city, and even if she called for a ride, it would take a long time for one to arrive.
There wasn't even a place to take shelter from the rain. How could he expect her to manage standing there all alone, cold and scared?
"I said get out," Hunter demanded, his voice even colder.
