Chapter 39: I'm Your Wife
Chapter 39: I'm Your Wife
"Do I have to see to whoever demands to meet me? Do I sleep with every man who demands to?"
Sleep with every man who demands to?
Olivier narrowed his eyes, as if despising that phrasing.
She leaned into him and said, "I really don't have anyone protecting me. That's why I had to look for
one. I didn't have a choice. I didn't want to use you. I know you don't like being exposed, but this was
the best idea I had. With you as my safety net, no one will ever mess with me."
Fleur's voice was lyrical and soft.
"Look at me," Olivier ordered.
Fleur sat up and looked at him obediently.
The orange night light outlined her delicate features perfectly. She looked weak, as if she needed to be
taken care of.
"Many people have been bullying you?" he asked.
Maybe he really did not know all there was to this...Olivier found his anger greatly reduced.
"Yes." Fleur nodded. Truth be told, she did have many people bully her or with the club. A woman being
the owner of a KTV naturally had a bad reputation. Moreover, women were easily bullied in this kind of
society.
Only when she stopping revealing herself did the bullying reduce, though more and more people began
causing trouble at the club.
"When the club had just opened, people would often harass me whether vocally or physically. I had no
choice but to lay low later on."
Fleur turned to face him. "Please don't be angry at me. I'm sorry, I swear I'll never do this to you again."
"That's enough. I'll accept your apology." NôvelDrama.Org © 2024.
"Then, are you still angry with me?"
Olivier shut his eyes. "Get out."
She was just as annoying as her cat!
There was a softness on his lips. When he opened his eyes, her face was right before hers, inching
back after stealing a kiss. "Then...can you keep on protecting me?"
"Fleur."
"Hmm?"
"You forced me to protect you. Aren't you 'my woman'?"
"What are you saying? I'm your wife," Fleur said meekly.
Olivier's eyes darkened as if he hated that term.
Fleur naturally realised it and quickly covered it up with a grin. It was bright as a flower blooming.
"Thank you, my handsome Master Olivier!"
Her smile was like a young girl's, wide and innocent.
The bloom of it was like a stroke of light in the dark, like an irresistible paw at one's heart, like a feast
for the eyes one could not look away from.
As their eyes met, it felt like they were the only ones in the world.
A minute later, Fleur leaned in close and kissed his chin. She made to move upwards but was quickly
pulled away by Olivier.
...
His eyes were dark, deep pools.
"Be serious."
Those words sounded teasing for some reason. People really changed easily. The last time Fleur had
kissed him on the lips he had almost killed her.
"I am serious. I can't help it if you're too handsome."
"Be quiet!"
Fleur wordlessly tugged at his quilt.
"...You want to sleep here?"
"Yeah." She nodded. "I came all the way here to apologize to you after returning from the police station
without even taking a shower because I knew you were angry. I'm sincere about this, so please don't
drive me away."
"Go and get me a glass of water," Olivier said abruptly.
"..."
"Can I not?"
Olivier's eyes flashed dangerously, to which Fleur quickly said, "I'll go, I'll go!"
She got up and went downstairs.
When she came back to the room with some water, she found that the door had been locked.
"..."
......
Olivier went to rest on his balcony. In the dark night sky only flickering stars were visible.
He looked far away into the horizon, a lit cigarette in hand. Yet he never took a swig.
The womanly fragrance on him wafted into his nose with the gentle breeze.
The best way for a woman to control a man was to be play coy and show weakness. The cat had
mastered the former. Fleur had undoubtedly mastered both and used it smoothly.
His phone rang.
It was Waldo Guerin.
"What?"
"'Your woman'? Since when did that happen? How was I not told? Were you set up?"
"Yes," Olivier replied curtly.
Waldo stood stunned for a moment on the other end of the phone, then began to laugh. It went on for
about two minutes before he continued, "Fleur is such an intelligent woman. I kind of like her."
"Don't insult her name."
Waldo paused awkwardly before saying, "Olivier what are you saying? Don't you always tend to your
personal life so it doesn't end up with a reputation like mine? You already have Virginie, why are you
still staking your claim over Fleur? I even personally spent hundreds of millions to catch a glimpse of
her face!"
"It's precisely because of trash like you that I was set up."
"...Who are you calling trash?"
"Goodbye." Olivier withdrew the phone, but put it back to his ear again as Waldo continued speaking:
"I'm very interested in Fleur. I know you're not in that kind of relationship. You'll definitely deal with her
after she set you up. How about this...
Punish her however way you want. I'll come and take her away afterwards. I believe I can 'protect' her
as well, since not many people cause trouble for me either."
"You'll have to get in line and wait."
"Wait...wait for what?"
Olivier's tongue lapped at the his lips. "Wait until I die."
......
It was late at night,
Perhaps it was because he had not done it in so long, and even had a small taste of it earlier. Waves of
heat rolled through Olivier without pause.
Fleur's scent lingered in the sheets. Olivier frowned and got out of bed, heading straight for the
bathroom.
He came out half an hour later and changed into dark sleepwear. He headed straight to the balcony
table and lit a cigarette. The flame flickered in the night.
Just then, his cell phone lit up with a new text message.
"Mr. Martinez, Miss Leroy does not have a wide social circle. I haven't found any evidence of close
contact with anyone of the opposite sex. She's the only one behind Stunning. It really sounds like no
one is backing her up.
As for her situation with Samuel Muller, I haven't found anything related in this short while. Please give
me some more time."
Everyone in Olivier's circle knew how having no safety net was the biggest safety net.
After having known her for three days, Fleur was definitely not an ordinary woman.
Olivier put down his phone, exhaling greenish-white smoke that rose in waves, shading his sharp eyes.
His eyes were especially bright in a dark night like this, with a wolf-like alertness.
As if waiting for his prey to reveal more and more of itself... as if waiting for a big fish to take his bait.
Olivier brought his phone along with him as he went to the study.
When he opened the door something touched his foot. With a switch of the lights he saw a glass of
water right by his door. Some water had splashed out onto his shoe and the floor.
Olivier impatiently ground his teeth.
