Chapter 12
Surprise!
Author POV
Dylan watched his friend, while waiting for the result of it, as his heart couldn’t stopped racing.
“I just called him, he is presently in south Korea now, but luckily, he’s coming back here by first flight tomorrow morning, so we should be expecting him in the country as early as 9am. I’ve explained everything to him, and he said he won’t be able to come treat him here in the hospital, so I suggest you take him home, so as when he comes, he’ll take it from there.” Raymond suggested, while watching his friend closely.
“That won’t be a problem, I’ll go meet the doctor to get the discharge documents ready, we’re leaving here in a few minutes.” Dylan said, before storming out of the room, and in the next few seconds, he was already on his way to the doctor’s office.
He walked inside the doc’s office, after knocking.
“Mr Smith?” The doctor called surprisingly, as he raised his gaze from the document he was sorting, while giving him a questioning and confused look.
“Doc, I want my dad discharged in a few minutes, I’m taking him away from here.” He said in a rush, looking all restless.
“Ok that wouldn’t be a problem, but how about the remaining bill?” The doc asked questioningly. This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.
“I’ll transfer it to your account. I need the documents ready, now!” He said with finality in his voice, before he finally stormed out of his office.
He walked back into the hospital room, where he met Raymond, waiting for him.
Seconds ticked into minute, and after what seemed like forever, the doctor finally came with some of his female nurses, as they carried the sick man away on a stretcher….
Karen POV
I kept pacing in my room, as my boss’s words kept ringing in my head. I can’t believe I’m going to lose my job because of that crazy young man, I know I can always get another job, even better than this current one, but I love this job, I’ve given it my all for these past years, and leaving the company now, is what I don’t even want to imagine. I need to get him to sign the contract, I can’t lose my job.
The sound of my ringing phone pulled my attention back to reality, and I sighed softly, before walking over to the bedside table, where my phone was laying, and picked it up, before sliding the answer button, not after checking the caller to be my colleague, Mavis.
“Hey Mavis.” I smiled forcefully, even if she can’t see me, as I tried as much as to sound fine, I don’t want her to suspect that I’m feeling bad.
“Karen…, how’re you doing?” Her voicec came on, with a hint of sadness, sounding in it.
“I’m fine, how about you?” I asked.
“I’m not fine Karen. When are you coming back to the company please? I’m missing you, everyone are missing you over here.” She whined from the other end, and tears welled up my eyes. For these few years of working with them, they’ve grown to love me, they’ve been the family I never had, and leaving them like this, is what I can never imagine happening.
“I’ll be back soon, take care.” I said, and without waiting for her to say anything, I clicked on the ‘end’ button, and disconnected the call. Slumping on the bed, the tears I’ve been fighting back, finally found their way out of my eyes.
Raising my gaze, my eyes fell on mom’s picture, and more pool of tears, rushed down my cheeks, I wish she was here, I wouldn’t be going through this much pain, if she was here, I wouldn’t have to start work in the first place, if she was here. Death why?
“What should I do mom?” I whispered, as I stood up and dragged my feet towards the wall, where her picture was hanging, and ran my fingers through it, with more tears falling off my eyes.
“I need you here mom.” I broke down in tears, as I fell on my knees.
The door suddenly burst opened, and I didn’t need anyone to tell me that it was dad, that just walked inside. Seconds ticked into a minute, before two strong arms, wrapped around me, enveloping me in a warm embrace, while giving the comfort I needed at the moment.
“Shhhhh! Don’t cry princess, everything will be fine.” Dad consoled me, as he patted my back, while stroking my hair…
Dylan POV
I stood inside the room, while watching dad lay on the bed, with his eyes closed. The Korean doctor will soon be here, maybe in an hour time, I can’t wait for him to come here, and treat my dad.
Letting out a deep sigh, I walked over to the bed, and sat beside him, before taking his hand, and kissed it.
“Dad…, you’ll be fine, alright?” I said, even if he can’t hear me. As much as something tells me things may not work out, I was determined to make things work, I’ll do whatever it takes, to make him survive this.
The sound of my ringing phone pulled my attention, and bringing out of my pocket, I quickly slid the answer button, seeing the caller to be Raymond.
“Hey Ray!” I said, as soon as I answered the call.
“Dylan, the doctor just got to Texas, I’m going pick him from the airport, we’ll be in your house in an hour or two. He needs to go check at a hotel, and have a change of clothes, before coming over.” He said.
“Alright, I’ll be expecting you.” I replied, before the call finally got disconnected.
I waited patiently for them to arrive, seconds ticked into a minute, and then into pass an hour, before my phone finally rang, it was Raymond, and this time, I didn’t need anyone to tell me that they must’ve arrived.
“Are you here now?” I asked impatiently, as soon as I picked the call.
“Yes we are.” He replied, followed by a knock on the door, and I quickly dropped my phone on the bedside table, before hurrying to go get the door. Opening the door, I was welcomed Raymond and the doctor.
“Hello doc. Please come in.” I said to him.
“Hello Mr Dylan, it’s nice meeting you.” He said, and finally walked inside.
“Me too. Thanks man.” I said to Ray, after closing the door, and he gave me a smile.
A few minutes later, the doctor finally started with checking his purse, and doing some other things, while I kept praying silently that things work out well.
After what seemed like forever, the doctor finally removed the earpiece of the stethoscope he’s been using on dad, and hung it around his neck, before turning around to face me, with an unreadable expression on his face.
“How’s it doc?” I asked impatiently, and he sighed…
