Chapter 59
0059
Hector POV
"You don't need to throw me out Hector, I'll go. But changing a pack doesn't end a marriage or a contract... remember that Kaia."
"As soon as I can, I'll send my divorce papers over."
It's her parting shot as he closes his car door.
I know he has heard her, his hands are holding on to the steering wheel so tightly, that his knuckles are turning white.
Maybe it will serve a purpose to have warriors watching their borders for once. Even if just to remind them they don't fucking rule the werewolf world. Not anymore they don't.
We both watch Alpha Damon's car drive off, his eyes are watching us in his rear view mirror.
"Kaia, let me explain..." I call out to her, she's already walking away from me. How has it come to this, that she will barely look me in the eyes. "You can leave at any time, please?"
Her head turns back towards the direction she came from, the direction she was leaving in...but by a stroke of luck, a mere measure of hope I need to latch onto before it vanishes, she decides to listen to
1. me.
I take her into the living room, the soft comfortable sofas offering a more informal, relaxed environment
than the authoritative decor of my office.
I needed her to feel at ease in my presence again.
Feg uncomfortable in my own home, fuck, I try to think of how to start my explanation. My hands are clammy, as I feel beads of sweat forming on both sides of my forehead.
"I first knew Alofa was my mate a few days before Than turned 18. He challenged me instantly, claiming that he was her mate... that I was wrong, that I had an ulterior motive." "Alpha...." She needs to hear me out, she needs to hear this.
"Kaia, please let me give you my side of events."
With a sigh, she sits back a bit more comfortably on the sofa, placing her hand out gesturing for me to
continue.
"Both Alora and Than were underage, they refused to believe my claim was true. Or Than did, Alora wanted to know more.."
Kaia scoffs which frustrates me. She doesn't know Alora, she has this image of a villain in her mind...but she's anything but. She's the sweetest girl and one that loves everybody.
I continue, now wasn't the time to correct Kaia on all things Alora.
"Alora wanted to hear me out, but Than refused. Ordering her not to go anywhere near me, forbidding for me to spend anytime with her. He was worried, as he should have been, that the more time I spent with her... the more she would feel the bond between us.
He had demanded that I wait until he turned 18...a little underage spoilt shit telling me what to do. I was 22 at the time, far more advanced in maturity than he... then..."
I've never spoken about that day, the dreadful discovery that fated early morning. How it was me that found her, and raised the alarm.
I can see her still now, eyes closed as if she were only sleeping. So peaceful.Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
Than tearing her from my arms, as Medea wailed behind me. The buzz I felt getting weaker and weaker the more her breathing struggled.
I didn't even realise my hands had been trailing through my hair on repeat, until I looked up at Kaia. Her eyes looking a few inches above my eyes, at my now disheveled hair.
The next bit...this was difficult to communicate.
"It was me that found her. My heart broke the moment I realised she was more than asleep, especially when I found the empty wolfsbane vial. She had decided to take her own life, than choose between us."
A gasp emits from Kaia's mouth, her hand placing on her chest.
"I didn't have my own pack, I couldn't declare a war against him. I had nothing. I needed time...time to build an empire that could bring his down."
"How did you know she would survive?"
"I hate him for it, but I've never doubted his love for her. His obsession is the only thing that has kept her alive. I wasn't even allowed to see her, to say goodbye. Medea saw to that. My Head Doctor is the best in the shifter community, if I could get her here..." "He might have been able to wake her up."
"Yes."
She remains quiet for a moment but I can tell she wants to ask me a question.
"How do I fit into all of this."
"A simple business deal, you for her. She needs freeing from him Kaia. Even if she doesn't chose me, she needs to escape him."
"So this entire pack you have built...is for her? Hector, you talk as if she is trapped, as if she is held against her will. She isn't...she is worshipped. She doesn't need freeing...." She pauses, shaking her head before continuing. What else was she going to say? "You've lost all bargaining power now anyway, with his heir gone...you have nothing."
My heart aches for what she has gone through. If I had just been more honest, maybe she could have helped me from the start. Kaia is smart, she is strong...more worldly than Alora.
He still wants her back. It's the sole purpose for him sending his father here. I need to know why... what is
the reason he wants her back. He never knew of her pregnancy.
He now has Alora...so why...why have the mate you have all but rejected.
"I won't betray you Kaia, but I do need to free her." 1
