Chapter 43
"Thea, tell me, who am I?" Nicolas asked, his voice low.
Thea winced from the pain, letting out a small sound as she tried to pull away.
"Who am I?" Nicolas refused to release his grip, his tone stubborn.
"You're Nic..." Before Thea could finish, urgent knocking interrupted them.
It was Darwin. "Mr. Hendrix, the doctor is here," he said.
Nicolas' emotions instantly withdrew, and he returned to his usual cold and distant demeanor. His chest rose and fell twice before finally letting go of Thea's hand, his face dark as he opened the door. Seeing a few buttons on Nicolas' shirt had been torn open, Darwin broke into a cold sweat. 'What the hell! It looks like I came at the wrong time,' he thought.
Nicolas turned and grabbed the coat from the chair, his voice slightly cold. "Let the doctor take care of things. I'm leaving."

The next morning, Thea woke up with her head still feeling foggy. She checked her clothes quickly, remembering how she had been drugged by Liam the night before.Property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Thankfully, everything was intact. But what had happened after? Thea tried to recall, but there was nothing.
Suddenly, the door opened, and Nicolas walked in. Thea sat up immediately, asking, "Mr. Hendrix? Why are you here?"
Nicolas looked at her with an unreadable expression. "You don't remember last night?"
Thea shook her head as if part of her memory was missing. She wanted to ask what had happened, but seeing Nicolas' slightly displeased expression, she decided against it. Then Nicolas tossed a set of clothes onto the bed and said, "Get dressed. We're heading back to Key Biskane."
"Okay," Thea replied.
Watching Nicolas' back as he walked away, Thea felt a sense of unease. 'Why does it seem like he's in a bad mood today?' she thought.
On the way back, Darwin gave Thea a brief rundown of what had happened the night before.
Someone noticed that something was off between her and Liam, and they stepped in to stop it, calling the police. Afterward, she was taken to the hospital.
For Liam, he had been kicked out of the Virtuex Group and was now in custody.
Hearing that, Thea finally let out a sigh of relief. But she noticed Darwin giving her a strange look.
"Ms. Rowland, you really don't remember anything from last night?" Darwin asked.
Thea shook her head. The drug Liam used must have been illegal, with serious effects. Whenever she tried to recall the events of the night, a splitting headache would stop her. Since she had been rescued, and Liam was punished, it didn't matter what had happened.
Darwin coughed awkwardly, suddenly feeling a bit sorry for his boss. 'Poor guy has been taken advantage of, and the next day, the person responsible doesn't even remember. Truly pitiful.' That afternoon, they arrived back in Key Biskane. Thea wasn't in a rush to go to the office, and she decided to stop by Nicolas' place first. Unexpectedly, the hotel front desk called to inform Thea that she had left something behind. So she had no choice but to head over there. Just as Thea arrived in the lobby, a sudden flurry of footsteps sounded behind her. In no time, she was surrounded by bodyguards.
"So, you know you did something wrong and tried to hide? Do you really think I can't find you?" Max approached, his face dark with anger. Thea's expression hardened immediately. "What do you want?" she asked.
Max replied, his tone harsh, "Do you have any idea how much damage your reckless actions have caused the Rowland Group?
"You know Emmalie's innocent, so why are you targeting her on purpose? She's the face of the Rowland Group too. What you're doing is it because you want to ruin all of us?"
Thea let out a cold laugh. "You better have proof before you speak. When did I ever target Emmalie? I'm just defending myself. If she hadn't kept provoking me, I wouldn't have bothered with her."
Max grabbed her and began pulling her toward the door.
"Let go!" Thea struggled. But she was no match for an adult man. So Max shoved her into the car forcibly.
"Come with me. You must apologize to Emmalie," Max ordered.
Thea's chest heaved, her heart aching. "You could've easily found out what Emmalie did if you'd bothered to look. But no, the moment something happens, you blame me without a second thought. Max, I'm your sister too. Why?" Seeing the redness in Thea's eyes, Max felt a strange sensation sweep over him. But the moment he thought of Emmalie's tear-streaked face, his resolve hardened once again.
"Let me ask you, did you bring in Celeste? Is Emmalie's engagement to Nicolas ruined because of you? If you can deny any of it, I'll believe you didn't do anything wrong," Max demanded.
Thea laughed bitterly and replied, "Yeah, it was all me. But why is it that all you see is what I did to Emmalie? Why don't you see what she did to me?
"If she hadn't sabotaged the Virtuex and Aurelia University collaboration, would I have retaliated?"
"Stubborn!" Max cut her off, clearly losing his patience. Then he stepped on the gas.
But instead of heading to the Rowland family estate, they arrived at a photography studio packed with people.
Emmalie was nestled against Ivy, sobbing softly. The moment she saw Thea, her body trembled as if she were terrified.
Ivy's expression was livid. She wanted to slap Thea but held back, knowing the media was watching.
In a cold voice, Ivy spoke. "Come explain everything. Admit it was your fault. Emmalie had nothing to do with it."
Thea scoffed. "What's this, some kind of forced confession? You want me to make a false statement to clear her name?"
Emmalie raised her tearful eyes and said, "Thea, how can you say that? I just want you to clear things up.
"I'm not holding you accountable for what you did to me, but you know how important playing the piano is to me. Do you really want to destroy me, to drive me to death, just to make yourself happy?" Ivy couldn't hold back any longer and grabbed Thea's hand. Her eyes were red, a mix of anger and helplessness.
"Emmalie is your sister. Do you know what she's been through? She can't eat, she can't sleep, and she's lost so much weight. How can you, as her older sister, be so heartless?" Ivy exclaimed. Thea's smile was ice-cold as she pulled Ivy's hand free. "Mom, you're worried about Emmalie not eating or sleeping, but why can't you worry about me?
"The deal with Aurelia University was practically finalized, and then Emmalie swooped in and spread rumors about me.
"Do you think she only hurt me? Do you think Nicolas is a fool? This has damaged both the Rowland and Hendrix family ties!"
Ivy froze, unable to find a retort. Emmalie's eyes flickered before she spoke again. "Thea, I know you're upset that your personal matters became public. "But secrets can't be kept forever. I've tried my best to cover for you.
"If you had just married into the Hendrix family and stayed out of the spotlight, no one would have remembered what you did.
"You were the one eager to put yourself out there, and now you're recognized for it. That's not my fault."
Ivy continued, her expression hardened, "Emmalie is right. You brought this on yourself, making a fool of us all.
"If you hadn't done those shameful things, would anyone have had anything to spread?
"Blame yourself. You did all those disgraceful things, and now you have the nerve to blame your sister?"
