“Oh hush now,” Mrs Harlow waved her hand, she looked at her son after placing the expensive-looking clutch on the table. She then said to him, “Let him be, the more drunk he is, the more calm he is. Do you want him to make a fuss on my birthday? Goodness
gracious.”
“Calm? More like drugged,” Aaron stated under his breath, but he had to admit that his mother was indeed
correct. His father was rather tamed when he was
drunk, however, if he was asked to not touch the
alcohol, he would cause a lot of trouble beca se of the
withdrawal.
“W…What are you speaking about me?” Mr Hrlow questioned as if he sensed everyone was talking about him. He swept a glance at the table and picked up the glass of wine, before pointing at everyone. He rumbled, “I am your father, you are not my father. Don’t act smart with me, huh,” he licked his lip drowning the wine in one gulp.
Ari flinched when he banged his glass on the table harshly and some old memories came rushing into

head. However, none of her memories related to her father were a good one, she remembered him beating Aaron and her when he was drunk. If he was not beating them, he was throwing the bottle of alcohol on the floor while screaming at the tops of his lungs at Mrs Harlow to bring more alcohol.
The last memory that flashed in front of he eyes comprised of Mrs Harlow getting beaten by her father, as he dragged her by her hair to the wardrobe. He was demanding Mrs Harlow to take out the money that she
had saved.
Back then, Mrs Harlow had glared at her wl was hiding behind the door frame and cursed at er.
‘It’s your fault, that was what Mrs Harlow, who had gone bitter with time, said to her.
Even though years have passed, Ari still remembered the expression on Mrs Harlow’s face when she said.
those words to her.
“By the way,” Mrs Harlow turned to look at Ari, silently in her seat. “Ariel told me that you ran a from the hospital after getting into an argument Noah. How many times have I informed you that y

should be glad that he even looked in your way and married you!” Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
Ari sighed when she heard her mother’s words. She glanced at the smug-looking Ariel and remarked, “Are you forgetting something, Mom? The reason I married Noah was because your daughter ran away on the night before the wedding. If not for her rash actions, I wouldn’t have married Noah.” Nor would she have suffered so much, she would have become a doctor after getting over her heartbreak.
The smug look on Ariel’s face froze. Though she could fool Noah, who took her as his saviour and believed everything that she said to him, her family kr w the truth. On the night before the wedding, she had indeed run away because she was afraid of marrying a man who was about to lose everything.
Mrs Harlow glared at Ari as she banged her pudgy hand on the table. She snapped at Ari, “Did I not tell you to not mention that incident? Do you see Ariel announcing your murderer’s identity to everyor
Ari stiffened when Mrs Harlow brought that incid up, she opened her mouth to defend herself but-

She closed her lips right back. The last time when she tried to explain the situation to her mother, she did not listen to a word that Ari said to her, instead she slapped Ari and told her to stay quiet.
And that wasn’t all.
‘Shut up, you monster! I regret even giving birth to you, I knew that something was wrong with you, the moment you were born, Mrs Harlow said to little Ari who looked at her mother while clutching her cheek. You almost ate my life, and now you almost killed that boy, you better hope that the boy lives, or I swear to god, Ari, I will bury you along with him!’
As Ari did not wish to receive another slap nor did she wish to hear any harsh words against her, so, she
stayed quiet.
When Ariel saw that her mother was standing up for her, her expression turned proud once again. She hugged her mother’s arm and shot a proactive look at Ari, what was the point of buying gifts and what for their mother when Mrs Harlow was going to support her every time?
Mrs Harlow also seemed pleased when Ari stoppe

quibbling with her, she did not like how Ari talked back to her when she should always keep her head down. Because of this girl, they have suffered enough, if she was even half as pleasant as Ariel, then they wouldn’t- have to lower their heads back then.
Her lips pursed in distaste when she remembered the memories of that day when everyone called her out and questioned her about what she taught her daughter for her to do something so sinister. Fortunately, that boy lived or else, they would have never been able to raise their heads in this town.
“Anyway, you should go back to the Nelson f nily and beg for their forgiveness,” Mrs Harlow commanded Ari as if she were a servant who had no choice but to do her bidding. “Tell Noah that you are sorry, and you will not do this again. Ariel had told me everything you are just making a mountain out of a molehill.” Though Mrs Harlow did feel a pang of guilt while saying this, when she thought about the gun that was pointed at her head three days ago, she gulped in fright.
Now she only wished for Ari to return to Noah,
then the threat on her life vanish.

However, Mrs. Harlow never thought that what she wanted would ever happen because–
“I am divorced,” Ari said calmly as she picked up the wine glass and took a sip from it. She was quite surprised by the expensive wine, as her parents always complained that they did not have enough money. “Where do you want me to go back?” a
