Chapter 58 Stepping Up The Game
Calista smiled coldly and took the clothes upstairs when she saw the workmen walking out along with Benedict.
Benedict seemed to have aged a lot in just one day. After all that happened, he felt too embarrassed to step out of the house, but thankfully he remembered to remove the CCTVs in Calista's room.
"Callie..." Benedict wanted to apologize, but when he saw Calista's small face with an icy expression on it, he didn't say anything in the end.
When she saw his bent back, Calista was strangely reminded of the time in her previous life when Yelena and Quincy had been taken back by the Wolford family, and the Staffords lost all standing in society. At that time Benedict had apologized to her again and again, and that painful and sorrowful look on his face made her unable to hate him.
To be fair, both she and Benedict were sacrificial lambs in Quincy and her mother's plans, and since she didn't meet with a good end, Benedict was not in much better shape either.
"Dad, you don't have to worry about anybody else knowing what happened today. Since Quincy is still in hospital, it'll take some days before this entire matter is settled. You'd better go to office tomorrow, don't neglect your official duties."
Benedict thought to himself, how can such a scandal not make it to the public's ears? He didn't believe everybody who knew about it would keep mum.
"It's alright...you don't have to worry about what's happening at home...you're going to start school soon, and you're going to skip a grade and get your Master's degree right? Just focus on your studies..."
"I'm serious."
Calista stood on the stairs and told Benedict in a very serious voice, "Nothing about today will go out, I guarantee you, so don't worry anymore."
When it came to Quincy's reputation, she was sure that the Wolfords were not going to just sit there and do nothing about it. Everyone knew how unscrupulous the Wolford family of Summerbank was all these years. This family was capable of doing anything. So Sterling would make sure that all the eyewitnesses would carry this to their grave, unless they wanted to die early.
Benedict shook his head when he suddenly thought - did Callie ask the Fairchilds for help? That must be it! Only the Fairchilds would be capable of keeping everything under wraps.
By the time he looked up and wanted to confirm this with Calista, she had already gone upstairs.
Benedict relaxed when he thought about this, but when he thought about Quincy he started frowning again. Even if such a major scandal didn't reach the public, it would still be spread within smaller circles. He could only hope that everyone would really not say anything about what had happened. Otherwise how was Quincy going to find a husband in the future?
Two days passed quickly.
Calista busied herself developing medicines and didn't bother with what was happening outside. She didn't bother finding out what was happening with Yelena's case, because since Sterling was around, no matter how unwilling he was, he would still make sure everything turned out fine, and Calista just had to wait for conclusion of the matter.
But it was such a pity - if Sterling hadn't suddenly interfered, this was such a good chance to chase Yelena out of the house and push Quincy into the mud!
She wanted to take revenge, but not the sort that required ten years of tolerating and determination. What she wanted was a revenge so swift that her enemies didn't know what hit them, and not what take each step slowly and make them wary of her.
But when she thought about it from a different angle, since this was quite a big blow to the mother and daughter pair, they probably wouldn't try to attack her for the time being. So she decided to focus on what she wanted to do for herself and wait for the next opportunity to get back at them.
Kallum was distractedly playing with his cell phone. "Quintus, why do you think she's not picking up my calls? It's already been two days, isn't she worried I might be really angry or that I don't like her anymore?"
Quintus Parker was just transferred in to be Kallum's personal bodyguard. When he heard this question, all he thought was that Calista probably didn't care about Kallum in the first place, so she wouldn't be worried about whether he liked her or not. But of course, he couldn't say anything like that out loud.
"Mr. Kallum, all girls have to keep some reservations, and won't be moved so easily, right? If she was the type that was so easily moved, you wouldn't like her because then she wouldn't pose a challenge to you." Kallum smiled, "You're right."
Kallum got up from his chair. "It's better for the man to be more forgiving, so since she's not picking up my calls, I'll visit her myself!"
Calista froze for a while when she saw Kallum had come looking for her. She had rejected Kallum's calls for the last two days and was surprised that he wasn't angry at all.
"Are you still daydreaming? The
auction's happening tonight, don't you want to go?" Kallum looked Calista up and down. He'd never- thought that this was how Calista looked like on a normal day at home, and thought she looked very cute.
Calista then remembered it was the day of the auction, and quickly replied, "You wait here for a while, I'll quickly change and come down."
Kallum grabbed her hand and gently patted it.
"Don't worry, I've brought a stylist along, no hurry."
The moment he finished speaking, a fairly flashy looking man walked in and exclaimed the moment he saw Calista, "Oh my GOD! Mr. Kallum, your fiancée is gorgeous! I guarantee you'll be the most fortunate man tonight!" Before Calista could say anything, the man clapped his hands and a large group of people surrounded her and pushed along upstairs to her room, shocking all the servants in the house.
Kallum nodded and was the last one to go up. When he reached her room, he found that her room was really tiny - there were only about a dozen people in her room, and there was already no space to stand. He was very displeased about it when Benedict returned home.
When he heard Kallum was bringing Calista along to an auction, Benedict happily replied, "Oh is that so? Mr. Kallum, please take care of Callie then!"This content © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
There were really no rumors flying around the past few days in Horington, and he assumed it was all thanks to Kallum, so he suddenly felt close to this future son-in-law, and was very excited about this.
But Kallum did not reciprocate this feeling. He looked around the house with a criticizing look on his face and asked coldly, "Are the Staffords so poor?"
Benedict was taken aback by this and was deeply embarrassed.
"The rooms for the Fairchild family servants are bigger than Ms. Stafford's room, and also..."
He pointed to some of the old furniture in the room and said, "Don't these things belong in the rubbish dump?"
Kallum was an arrogant man and
did not like placating others. He wanted to try talking to Benedict
nicely since he'd never had much et
interaction with this future
father-in-law even after so many years. But after seeing Calista's room, he decided against this.
Calista felt very awkward after hearing this, but when she tried to move, the stylist pushed her back onto the chair, "My beautiful girl, don't simply move. I'm drawing eyeliner on you now, and this is a very important step." Benedict saw that his daughter was stuck in her room and unable to answer, so he politely smiled and replied, "I have been too careless - her mother has always been the one looking after the home so..."
"Her mother?" Kallum bent down to look at Benedict, his purplish black eyes becoming more and more displeased.
"Calista's mother died a long time ago. Are you saying there are ghosts in this house?"
Calista let out a snort. She didn't expect that there could be a time when she and Kallum were on the same page.
When he thought about Yelena, Benedict started feeling more and more awkward. The police still had not concluded her case, but it certainly looked like Yelena was not fit to be a mother.
"Yes...I will get someone to change them later."
Kallum finally nodded. The Staffords
were not rich enough to make a room that met his standards, but Calista wasn't going to live here for long. Once he captured Calista's heart, he would get her to live with him and eventually get married.
When he thought about this happy future, Kallum's tense face finally broke into a smile.
"Alright then, I'll get someone to bring some things over later. Calista is my fiancée, I hope your entire family remembers this well!"
