Chapter 35~ A scream
Chapter 35- A scream
"Can you stop pestering me? So annoying!"
Lora's cold voice rang in Ryan's mind and her harsh words kept replaying in his mind like a broken record.
Her attitude confused Ryan to the core. He couldn't take her off his mind. This was new to him, after all, he was used to women throwing themselves at him and no one had ever dared to reject him. Lora Davis being the exception
Ryan sighed internally as he swirled the amber liquid in his glass. He was seated on a leather couch in the VIP section of his club and soft music played in the background.
After that call with Lora, he had been in a bad mood and needed a drink to calm down.
Davis' daughter is so proud. She needs to be put in her place."
Ryan's ears perked up when he heard that. His eyebrows creased as he turned his head to glance to the right side of the club. A few old men were playing pool while others sat on an L-shaped leather couch, smoking cigars and drinking expensive whiskey. 'Davis' daughter? Are they talking about Lora Davis?' Ryan mused.
"Mr Hendrix, I'm so sorry you had to endure that from her. How dare she treat your son like that? He was supposed to be the CEO, not an inexperienced brat like her!" One of them said.
Ryan narrowed his eyes. 'Craig Hendrix? Isn't he a major shareholder in Davis & Co? They really are talking about Lora,' he said in his mind and paid attention to their conversation.
"Hahaha, don't worry about that. She's on her way out. It's only a matter of time before she gives up. The shipment that went missing is worth millions of dollars. She will have to take responsibility for it," Craig Hendrix could be heard speaking with a mocking tone. "Oh, foolish girl. She doesn't know what's in store for her. The only one she will have to blame is Jack Davis. How could he let his daughter inherit the company? That's a man's job!"
"You're right, Mr Johnson. If Lewis got the position, we would benefit more. We need to kick that little girl out. It's not our fault that Jack couldn't be man enough to father a male heir."
As Ryan listened to the conversation, he couldn't help the anger that ripped through him. His eyes turned cold and he clenched his hands into fists. How dare they talk about Lora like that?
He wanted to walk in on them and give them each a good beating, but he had to hold himself back from doing so. His actions could put Lora in more danger and he also wanted to hear what they were planning to do.Exclusive content © by Nô(v)el/Dr/ama.Org.

of protectiveness crept into him. He won't let anyone hurt Lora, ever! Ryan didn't know why, but he wanted to protect Lora with all he had.
The business world was cruel, and Lora seemed to be a target of a big conspiracy within her own father's company. These men would do anything to usurp her position.
"She promised to find the missing shipment within two days but that's not going to happen. What we will get after two days is her resignation," someone said.

A murmur of agreement echoed through the room followed by laughter.
"I can't wait to see her face when she finally learns her place," Craig Hendrix remarked.
"How does she plan to find the shipment though? That area is said to be dangerous, that's why we have the toughest men working there," someone said.
"That's the plan. If something happens to her, the position will be empty and ready for someone worthy," one of the men replied.
"But... what if she really finds the shipment within two days?" Someone reasoned.
"Oh come on. What can a little girl like her do? It's impossible for her to find it within two days, not when no one wants to help her."
"Hahahaha, you're right."
The men laughed and clinked their glasses to celebrate their foreseen victory.
"If only she was obedient," another man scoffed. "Being CEO got to her head, really quickly. What's the plan, Mr Hendrix?"
"When she fails to find the shipment and asks for more time, propose for Lewis to look for it. He will find. it within an hour and then, we can vote for him to be the CEO," Craig replied.
"Hahahaha, I love this plan. Let's show Jack's daughter that the business world is no place for a little girl like her. Perhaps she can seduce Lewis and get married to him, then she can be the CEO's wife, hahaha." Ryan gritted his teeth and worry crept into him. He recalled how Lora sounded like when he called her earlier that day. She seemed to be in a hurry.
He got to his feet and went to his office within the club before dialling Lora's number.
When she didn't answer, Ryan furrowed his eyebrows. Could something have happened to her?
A thought occurred to him and he used the club's telephone to call her. As expected, Lora's voice echoed through the speaker. It see
