Love Me The Way I Did

Chapter 37

Chapter 37

Margaret asked, “You aren’t really taking me to the bathroom, are you?”

After chasing after Margaret from the office, Jacob had been leading the way since then. She thought Jacob was a good person, so she took the initiative to talk with him. She knew that he wouldn’t be so stupid and just wanted to find a topic to establish a friendly relationship.

“No. There is a nice café downstairs. Are you up for it?” Jacob recalled the average time Roxanne took every time she came to make trouble. He thought that he and Margaret could go downstairs to enjoy a cup of warm coffee.

‘Roxanne is certainly someone one can’t be fond of after knowing her!‘ Jacob exclaimed inwardly.

“Sure.” Margaret would go anywhere as long as she didn’t have to stay with Gideon.

“Ms. Lambert doesn’t usually come here. Every time she comes, we’ll be unlucky,” Jacob said. He already sided with Gideon, though he hadn’t experienced it once.

Margaret smiled and didn’t respond. She didn’t care much about the number of times Roxanne came. That was between Roxanne and Gideon, which had nothing to do with her. She regretted starting the conversation.

“Ms. Lambert always has a way to upset Mr. Compton. He’s someone who doesn’t vent his anger and habitually hides all his emotions. But he’ll work compulsively to vent his inner depression, so we also suffer. I remember one day five years ago, Ms. Lambert said something when she came here. He was very ruthless and asked the planning department to revise a plan 13 times before he was satisfied with it. The staff of the planning department almost quit their jobs.” Jacob stopped after saying that, as he knew when to stop.

Margaret lowered her head and followed Jacob slowly. He couldn’t see her expression or guess what she was thinking, so he said nothing for the time being.

“Roxanne, we have reached an agreement. You shouldn’t be in my office.” Gideon had a serious talk with Roxanne once about something that happened. If she wished to continue as Gideon’s fiancée, she must agree to his terms.

Roxanne was not allowed to be here unless necessary and without an appointment and Gideon’s consent.

“What agreement? I forgot about it.” Roxanne didn’t even want to hide it. She replied so insincerely that Gideon saw through her act at a glance.

Gideon stood up from the couch, looked down at Roxanne, and said coldly, “Then, I can also forget what we discussed before. I’ll hold a press

conference as soon as possible to announce the cancellation of our engagement.”

Gideon thought, “Very well. I was still thinking about making an excuse or compensating some to the Lambert family. Since Roxanne is willing to break our agreement, I don’t have to keep some of my words.‘

“Gideon, don’t you dare!” Roxanne shouted, and a bird that had just flown past Gideon’s office window was startled by the sound. Its wings stopped fluttering, and it almost fell from the sky. It would be so embarrassing for a bird to fall and die.

“Roxanne, what do you think I dare not do? It’s all about whether I want to or not,” Gideon said, walked back to his desk, sat down, and

continued to work.

Roxanne ruined his motivation to win Margaret back. He regretted that he had chosen to have a marriage alliance with Roxanne as a shortcut

back then.

In the beginning, Gideon told Margaret and himself that his marriage to Roxanne was a last resort. Had it not been for the engagement, he would never have had the chance to be recognized by the Compton family. However, he knew that it was just an excuse to comfort Margaret and deceive himself.

At that time, Gideon had another choice. The path was full of thorns, and it would take him too much time. He was eager to succeed fast and chose a shortcut, using the fastest time to achieve his goal. However, he was left with Roxanne, a great hidden risk.

Roxanne couldn’t accept such an outcome. She rushed to his desk, slammed her hands on it, and shouted, “Gideon, have you forgotten who helped you gain a firm foothold in Compton Group?”

“This again? Roxanne, can you be more creative? You say this every time, and you have reminded me thousands of times. Is there a purpose

to it?” said Gideon.

“You forgot what I said so many times. If I didn’t tell you once, you wouldn’t remember it. I’m afraid that you would have kicked the Lambert

family aside.” Roxanne knew that Gideon didn’t love her, but it didn’t matter. If she could own him, she believed that she would have a

chance to win his heart in the future.

“Go back tonight and ask Mr. Lambert how he got through the two crises last year and the one before,” Gideon said bluntly. He owed the Lambert family, but he had repaid the favor in the past two years.

Roxanne was confused by Gideon’s expression. The trump card Abraham kept telling her about was almost gone. Without Gideon’s debt to

the Lambert family, she didn’t know what other weapons she could use to restrain Gideon.

Suddenly, Roxanne became scared. When she thought of the scene she saw when she came in and the message she received before arriving, all kinds of emotions, such as fear and worry, surged up. She screamed and swept several things off Gideon’s desk to the floor without

hesitation.

Gideon couldn’t stand Roxanne’s crazy behavior. He was glad that the past few years had made him realize that the woman he wanted to

spend his life with was definitely not Roxanne.

Fortunately, they never got married. It was still not too late to correct the mistake. Otherwise, he would spend the rest of his life in chaos.

“Gideon, it’s been six years. Do you really have no feelings for me at all? From 20 to 26 years old, Roxanne spent her best years waiting for Gideon to like her, ask her out for dinner, and for a special occasion to happen so that she could hold his arm and appear in front of everyone.

Roxanne didn’t want many women to be jealous of her. She just wanted to spend more time with Gideon. Without those special occasions, she didn’t know how long she would have to wait.

“Yes. Does hate count?” Gideon was being so blunt that Roxanne’s twisted face turned pale as if she had applied a whole bottle of foundation. Her breath grew heavier because of her anger and shame.

After some time, Roxanne asked with reddened eyes, “Gideon, can you stop being so mean?”

“I hope we can split peacefully. If not, don’t blame me for being too rude.” Gideon spoke in an almost threatening tone. From NôvelDrama.Org.

“Very well. Now that you’ve told me your thoughts, I’ll tell you mine. Gideon, I’ll not give up our engagement. You’d better be ready to marry me.” Roxanne still thought that her family was capable enough, and Gideon couldn’t do without the support of the Lambert family.

Roxanne ignored Gideon’s efforts and growth over the years and thought that the Lambert family had great influence. She was confident that he would bow to her in the end.

“If you insist on saying that, we have nothing to talk about anymore. Do you want to leave by yourself, or should lask someone to kick you out?” His words were even more heartbreaking. If it were the latter case, the security guard would throw her out of the gate right away.

Roxanne knew that she couldn’t afford to lose face. She glared at Gideon angrily for a few seconds, gently flicked her hair, and said softly, “Go ahead with your work. I’ll come back later. She looked so indifferent as if she hadn’t argued with him just now

Gideon watched Roxanne leave, thinking about how to eliminate the troublesome Lambert family completely.

Margaret was really a little troublesome. As soon as she came back, all of Gideon’s plans were disrupted. He had planned to make the Lambert family more chaotic and empty in the next two years, so it would be easier for him to make a move then. However, Margaret’s sudden appearance made Gideon only want to go back to the time when she was still by his side five years ago.

Gideon was willing to put in a little more effort for such a small goal.

After four and a half years of no news about Margaret, Gideon thought he would never see her again. Her reappearance was a surprise and a gift, and it was worthy of him putting effort into winning her back.

After Roxanne left, Gideon sent Jacob a message, asking him to bring Margaret back.

Jacob looked at the message and at Margaret, who was eating happily. He secretly took a photo of her and sent it to Gideon, asking the latter to decide whether to bring her back or let her finish eating first.

Thinking of the scene when he and Roxanne broke into the office together, Jacob suddenly felt that the temperature in the room was a little high, and his face was hot. Gideon usually took the company seriously, and his private life was not very complicated. Jacob exclaimed inwardly, ‘I can’t believe he’s such a beast when no one is around.‘

Margaret didn’t know about Jacob and Gideon’s little interaction, nor did she know that Gideon was sitting in the office, giggling at her eating.

[Let her finish first.] Gideon sent a message to Jacob and committed to work.

At the thought of facing Gideon again when she returned to the company, Margaret deliberately slowed down eating. To stall for a longer time, she even thought of a question that Jacob was interested in and asked, “How many years have you been working for Gideon?”

“Five years,” Jacob replied.

The time was almost the same as the duration of her absence. A lot had happened around Gideon after she left. Anyway, it was boring. She

wanted to know what his life had been like these years.

Otherwise, it was unfair that only Gideon knew everything about her, and she didn’t know anything about him.

‘s been a long time. I bet you know Mr. Compton very well.” Margaret implied something in her words. Jacob was a wise man, and he certainly understood what she meant.

“Ms. Wilcox, you sound like a paparazzi now.” Jacob became wary. He didn’t know much about Gideon and Margaret. However, Gideon believed in Margaret, and so did he, and was only afraid that she tried to get something out of him and use it against Gideon. By that time,

Jacob would be in trouble.

Gideon was a standard employer, and the best way to deal with his employees was to deduct their wages.
