Chapter 534
No matter how cute the kid was, this was just out of line!
Everett shot her a sharp glance.
Kate clammed up, too scared to say another word.
"This is my son."
Kate was floored.
Wait, this adorable kid was actually Mr. and Mrs.'s child?
Everett gently tousled little Mateo's hair, but the boy dodged with a scowl, his big eyes darting to the door.
He could tell exactly what the boy was thinking.
Everett didn't stop him. He settled into an armchair, casually watching him, a smirk playing on his lips. "If you think you can make a run for it, go ahead. I won't stop you."
"But once you step out that door, whatever happens-whether you get nabbed or eaten by wild animals-I won't be responsible."
Little Mateo's nose twitched, and his face went pale.
Kate quickly covered the kid's ears, reassuring him, "He's just trying to scare you, little man. Don't worry."
Suddenly, Mateo blurted out, "You're not my dad! You made Mom sad, so you're the bad guy!"
Hadn't he just been snatched up by this so-called bad guy?noveldrama
A shadow flickered in Everett's eyes.
"So, Selena taught her son to see a thief as his dad and his real father as the villain, huh?"
His tone was light, but it sent a chill down the spine.
Kate was shaking in her boots, but little Mateo stood firm, defending Callum, and shouted at his own father, "Don't talk about Mr. Callum like that! He's the best uncle, and I want to go home!" He started to cry and throw a fit.
Everett couldn't help but chuckle at the scene.
This mother and son duo, always harping on about Callum, sure knew how to push his buttons.
"This is your home," he reminded, his gaze narrowing. "You came here on your own, remember?"
Little Mateo's face froze, filled with a mix of sorrow and regret.
He realized he'd made a mistake.
If he hadn't come here, this bad dad wouldn't have found him, and he wouldn't have been separated from his mom, making her even sadder.
He slumped into silence, looking pitiful as he sat there.
Everett reached out a hand toward him but pulled back at the last moment. He then told Kate, "Get him something to eat, then give him a bath and put him to bed."
Kate nodded and quickly whisked the boy away.
Everett felt a wave of frustration.
He stepped out onto the balcony and lit a cigarette.
Being a first-time father, the man who always had everything under control found himself clueless about dealing with his child, especially when the kid wanted nothing to do with him.
en
He frowned deeply.
But no matter what, he'd already missed out on three years, and from now on, he wouldn't let any more time slip away.
The next day, little Mateo woke up insisting on going home, and Kate couldn't calm him down.
Everett simply scooped up the boy and took him to the office.
Without him there to keep an eye on things, who knew what kind of chaos the little guy might cause?
Naturally, the big boss bringing a kid to work caused quite the stir.
Who would've thought that Mr. Everett and his ex-wife had a child together!
Now, with Mr. Everett openly bringing the child to the office, did that mean old flames might be rekindled?
Did this mean Yasmine, the current favorite, might soon be out of the picture, following in Margot's footsteps?
Seems like Selena, the original wife, was making waves. After three years apart, she might just make a comeback, all thanks to the kid. Since joining the company, everyone treated Yasmine as the future Mrs. Everett, showing her the utmost respect, and she never denied it. She started to enjoy the attention, even dreaming up more possibilities.
But today, people's gazes shifted, and there was whispering and gossip all around.
Yasmine put on a brave face, pretending not to care.
This child was clearly Selena's doing, not something Mr. Everett wanted! Otherwise, why would Mr. Everett need a DNA test to confirm the kid was his?
These folks knew nothing and just loved to gossip!
Back when Mr. Everett was in dire straits, Selena abandoned him without a second thought. How could such a heartless woman deserve someone as good as Mr. Everett?
She made coffee as usual and brought it into the CEO's office.
Alex was briefing Everett on the schedule, reminding him about the meeting in the conference room.
Everett glanced at his son, who was sulking on the sofa.
He couldn't exactly take him to the meeting, so he needed someone to watch him.
Everett turned to Alex, "Stick around and keep an eye on him."
Before Alex could respond, Yasmine stepped up, offering, "Mr. Everett Alex needs to help with the meeting notes. If you don't mind, I can watch the child."
She paused, then added, "I used to be a preschool teacher."
