Chapter 66
[Hey, wasn't that interview supposed to drop next week?]
A minute later, her boss shot back with his usual no-nonsense style: [I bumped it up.]
Selena: [So, you picked the date on purpose?]
Her boss: [Yep, can't have my team getting pushed around.]
Selena read that and felt a smile creep across her face. Typical, always got our backs...Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
Then another message popped up: [Also, it's because you took on that tough gig and, let's be honest, your looks helped kick things off.]
Basically, if it had been someone less skilled or not as eye-catching, they wouldn't have grabbed the audience's attention, and it would've gone unnoticed. Selena's grin widened. Who doesn't love a bit of flattery?
From the magazine's point of view, her boss wouldn't turn down Everett's offer for a resource swap, but on a personal level, he was totally in her corner.
That's why he timed her comeback tweet perfectly, riding the wave of Margot's hype, to put her in the spotlight. It wasn't just her talent and looks; it was playing into the crowd's urge to push Margot aside. After all, once public opinion gets rolling, not even big money can hold it back.
Selena was both thankful and impressed. Her boss sure knew how to play the media game like a pro. No wonder Ink & Insight had grown into a print media powerhouse under his watch. Good thing she wasn't on his bad side.
Selena quickly messaged her thanks: [Thanks, Boss. I'll dig up even more juicy stories to repay your support.]
She had been quiet, so Joy called out, confused, "Selena, you still there?"
"Yep, still here." Selena snapped back to reality and filled Joy in on her boss's strategy.
Joy couldn't help but gush, "He's the real deal, isn't he? Always makes such a splash! By the way, how old is he? Is he cute? Married?"
The conversation had suddenly veered into dating territory.
Selena was taken aback, "Why do you care?"
"Gossip is in our DNA! Besides, we've all heard of this mysterious boss but never seen him. Everyone's dying to know more."
True, even Selena was super
curious. But she'd never laid eyes on
her boss, didn't know his age or anything personal about him they only communicated via email.
She had tried asking around, but her colleagues were just as clueless The only thing they knew was that he was a guy. And a smart, strategic one at that, with a keen eye and fiercely loyal to his team.
She replied honestly, "I really don't know."
Joy was let down but quickly shrugged it off, "Well, someone who runs Ink & Insight like that probably isn't a young hotshot. Maybe a middle-aged guy with a bit of a belly or even an old-timer. Not everyone can be like Everett or Callum, you know, young and already at the top of their game."
Hearing that name, Selena's smile vanished instantly. She cut to the chase, "Are you here to play advocate for that jerk again?"
