Chase’s car was parked early at the courthouse door, waiting in front of the steps.
Chase sat inside the vehicle; his brow furrowed in contemplation.
Meanwhile, his driver, Warren, and his assistant, Tom, loitered outside. Their eyes darted around periodically, displaying a hint of alertness.
While he had many allies, enemies were never in short supply. It was due to his business, which had grown so much.
In Anceburg City, there were plenty who harboured desires to see Chase’s skull cracked by a bullet.
Though Chase might dismiss these threats as mere nuisances, Warren and Tom dared not let their guard down.
“Mr. Thompson, Ms. Summers is here,” Warren announced.
Jessie stepped out of the taxi, hurrying over, prompting Chase to leisurely exit the
car.
“You’re late,” Chase said, his displeasure evident.
Jessie shrugged. “Can’t help it. It took me a while to hail a cab. Unlike you, Mr. Thompson, I don’t have a chauffeur waiting every time I step out.”
Chase glanced at her nonchalantly, opting not to pursue the matter further. He strode past Jessie towards the courthouse gates. “Let’s not waste any more time. Let’s finish it soon.” This is property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
“Yeah, let’s finish this,” Jessie murmured.
Warren felt unsettled as he watched the two walk forward. He turned to his brother, Tom. “Hey, how did they end up like this?”
“Some things are better left unasked.” Tom shot his brother a warning glance.
Warren curled his lips and looked into the distance.
On the other side, Jessie halted just before entering the courthouse’s broad glass

“Always dramatic.” Chase scoffed, but he didn’t refuse Jessie. Instead, he strode over to her and examined her face intently.
“You’ve lost weight,” Chase commented.
Jessie smiled indifferently. She closed her eyes and leaned her head against Chase’s chest.
Chase was a little lost. The moment he embraced Jessie, Chase realized she was more than just a bit thinner. Compared to a year ago, she seemed like a different person altogether, even the touch of her through the fabric felt sharp.
The delicate flower he once held in the palm of his hand was withering before his eyes. Was this truly what he wanted?
Just as doubts crept into his mind, the image of a grim female corpse flashed in his thoughts, and his grip around Jessie’s waist tightened incrementally.
When he lifted his head again, the tenderness in his eyes vanished, replaced by an endless coldness.
“Are we finished hugging? Let’s hurry up
s hurry up and get the paperwork done!” Chase released Jessie, his tone icy.
“Let’s go.” Jessie opened her eyes, devoid of any lingering affection.
As they were about to step into the courthouse, Tom, who had been watching them. from afar, suddenly received a call on his phone.
In less than two seconds, Tom’s face turned pale!
He quickly hung up the phone and dashed towards Chase. “Mr. Thompson! Wait!”
“What’s wrong?” Chase stopped in his tracks, his gaze cold as he looked at Tom.
“I just got some information. The White family was attacked. Though the assailants were taken down, the Young Master and Miss were frightened,” Tom explained breathlessly.

Without a second thought, Chase turned on his heel and exited the courthouse. “To the White residence!”
“Wait!” Jessie grabbed his arm. “We need to get a divorce first before you leave.”
“The children were scared, I must go there right away,” Chase retorted.
“Your children were scared, but my father is lying unconscious in the hospital! I can’t even go near him because the debt collectors are pressuring me! Your children was just frightened, but my father is actually dying!” Jessie’s voice was filled with anger.
At the mention of Peter, Chase’s face turned even colder. “Is Peter worthy of being compared to Mason?”
Jessie was infuriated. She wanted to slap him, but her hands were firmly restrained. Chase roared, “Have you had enough of this drama?”
“Jessie, if you cause another scene, believe me, I’ll have Peter’s oxygen tube pulled out right away!”
