Chapter 26: •Wiped•
Quinn:
I made my way around Gonzalez's home office, in the darkness of the room, trying to find the hidden
safe I'd once broken into.
Everywhere was dark and quiet. The occupants of the house which consisted of Gonzalez, his wife,
and only daughter were fast asleep in their respective rooms. I'd left Rhea alone to carry out the
mission myself.
I needed to be as quiet as possible to avoid getting caught.
Aided by my night vision, I crept to the liquor cabinet at the corner of the office. My eyes scanned the
drinks in the cabinet, in search of the one covering the button that could open the safe. As soon as my
eyes landed on the bottle of whisky, I carefully pulled it out, revealing the button that was the same
color as the cabinet.
The first time I'd broken into the safe, it had taken me hours to find it. After hours of searching in vain,
I'd decided to help myself to a drink from the cabinet. The Whisky caught my eyes. I'd pulled it out,
intending to drink from it when my fingers had mistakenly hit that spot on the wall and it opened to a
secret compartment, before my very eyes.
That was how I'd found the flash drive where Gonzalez hid all the files of his illegal activities.
The things I found on that drive had been of great surprise to me. I knew the man was involved in some
dirty deals but I didn't know they were that deep.
Placing the bottle of whisky carefully on the counter, I reached for the position I'd taken it from, feeling
the wall for the little bump that could easily be ignored. As soon as I felt it, I pressed it and waited for it
to open.
It opened but instead of revealing the little safe, it revealed a door that needed a password to be
opened. I cursed lowly, gritting my teeth in annoyance. This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
I needed to think fast.
My mind raced through all the possible things he could use as a password but nothing was suitable.
If the man used a password, it'd be something no one would trace to him. Again, my mind went through
all the terrorists he had helped get away but I had no doubt he couldn't be foolish enough to use any of
their names.
Then, one name came to mind. A name that even someone that knows all of his dirty secrets wouldn't
get.
My name.
That wasn't documented among the deals he'd engaged in. I was merely an obstacle in his way and he
got rid of me to remain at the top of his game.
Smirking, I entered my name as the code and as expected, it opened. My smirk widened.
He isn't so wise after all. I congratulated myself on a job well done.
As soon as the safe opened, My eyes landed on the flash drive I came for. I snatched it from the safe
and closed it back, returning the bottle of whisky to its position.
I could take the drive and leave but those weren't my intentions. With the drive-in hand, I strode silently
to his computer. Booting it, I connected the drive to it, opening it to see If all the files and documents
were intact. Unfortunately for him, they were all intact.
I smiled to myself at the little victory.
Thus, I went to work, wiping every file and document from the drive. Once it was as good as new, I
threw it on the desk, shutting down the. computer. Then, I took out the letter Rhea had written and
dropped it on the desk, next to the drive.
The letter read:
I warned you. This is your last chance. Refund my money, else, the government will be rewarding you
soon. I'm sure they'd love to know more about you.
Tick tock!
Mission completed, I left his office for the cabin, appearing back into the room. Rhea was sleeping
peacefully, just the way I'd left her.
Stripping off my clothes, I joined her in bed.
