Chapter 58: Did Something Happen?

Chapter 58: Did Something Happen?

The next morning, Hayden woke up and turned her body over, she felt as if her bones were breaking apart.

She slowly opened her eyes and found herself in a sumptuously-decorated room. It didn’t look unfamiliar to her. She took a glance around the room and realized that it was the guest room of Joseph’s house.

She lifted the quilt as she wanted to get up from bed and looked down. She immediately widened her eyes and screamed loudly, "Ahh!"

Her scream was muffled by the sound of water splashing in the bathroom.

Hayden looked towards the bathroom in horror. She could faintly see the figure of a fit man through the frosted glass.

Really?

She vigorously pulled the bed sheet. What did she do last night?

The sound of water in the bathroom stopped abruptly. A moment later, he pulled the door open with his slightly wet hand. He wrapped a towel around his waist, and wiped his hair as if nothing had happened. It seemed that he didn’t hear her screaming just now. After taking two steps, he saw Hayden sitting on the bed and their eyes met in an instant.

Looking at his strong upper body, Hayden’s mind went blank.

She tipped the corner of her lips and revealed a forceful smile. She stuttered herself words, “You and I... last night, perhaps... did something happen?”

“Can't you feel it yourself?”

Joseph asked her back. He placed the towel on his shoulder and the water droplets on his partially wet hair streamed down his face. He looked extremely hot.

“Don't come over.”

Hayden covered her eyes as she didn’t want to look at his body.

“What are you afraid of?”

Joseph stood by the bedside with a calm face, "We’ve done everything than we should and shouldn’t do last night. Don't tell me that you have no memory of what happened last night at all."

Hayden lowered her head, with a face as red as tomato. She was so nervous that she couldn't say a word.

Of course she knew what happened last night. Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g

“I... I can’t remember.”

She summoned up her courage and planned not to admit it.

Joseph sneered above her head, and Hayden thought she had misheard it. When she looked up, Joseph had already taken a bathrobe from the closet and walked towards the door.

“The servant will send you clothes and medicine later. Come downstairs to eat after you’ve changed your clothes.” He stood at the door with his back facing her and said in a cold tone.

“Medicine?” Hayden froze for a moment, "What medicine?"

Was it a contraceptive pill or something?

When she was thinking nonsense, a profound voice sounded outside the door.

“Antiseptic cream.”

“Did I injure myself?” Hayden felt inexplicable at the man who couldn’t make his words clear enough.

She really didn't understand his words. When she got out of bed to take a shower, her face turned red.

In an instant, she understood where this antiseptic cream should be applied at.

She didn’t know whether she should be angry at this man, or thanked him for being considerate.

After changing her clothes, she stayed in the room for more than ten minutes to clear her mind before pulling the door out. When she saw the servant in the hallway who was preparing to clean the room, her face was still looking calm. She pretended that nothing had happened and greeted the servant.

“Good morning.”

The servant smiled brightly, "Ms. Downey, it isn’t morning anymore. It's already noon."

The forced smile on Hayden’s face seemed even more forceful now.

When she got downstairs, Joseph wasn’t in the living room.

“Young master is handling some business affairs in the study room. He told me to call him for lunch once you come downstairs.”

“No need.” Hayden quickly raised her hand and made a refusal gesture, "Don't call him. I'm leaving now. I have something else to do, so I won’t be eating here.”

“Ahh, Ms. Downey, I don’t think this is a great idea. This...”

Hayden was afraid that the servant would stop her from leaving, so she hurriedly walked out even when she hadn’t changed her shoes.

The sound of a car stopping sounded outside and Hayden halted her steps.

A black car stopped outside the courtyard. A familiar old housekeeper got down and opened the car door. The old man of Beckham’s family got out of the car.

“Ms. Downey?”

The old man looked her over, "What a coincidence, I’m here to visit Joseph. You're here too?”

“Mr. Beckham.”

Hayden smiled with guilt. She wanted to dig a hole and hide her head inside. At that moment, she realized all the things that had happened earlier wasn’t awkward at all. The awkwardness now, was only the most awkward moment she had ever experienced in her entire life.

Mr. Beckham’s car blocked the main door of the yard, he obviously didn’t plan to let her go.

Two minutes later, Joseph went downstairs from the study room and Hayden had been arranged to have a sit at the dining table, as if she was a criminal waiting for trial.

“Grandpa?” Joseph frowned and walked towards them, “Why are you here?”

The old man said lovingly, “You haven’t been coming back home to visit me for so long. I stopped by to see you on the way, but I didn’t expect to have an unexpected surprise here.”

The old man decided to stop by today? This was way too coincident.

Joseph didn’t expose him. He walked towards the seat opposite Hayden and was about to take a sit, but a servant pulled a chair next to Hayden, “Young master, take a sit here.”

Hayden suddenly coughed and shook her head at him.

She was as guilty as a teenage girl who didn’t return home all night to have fun getting caught by her elders.

Joseph ignored her awkward expression and directly walked over to sit next to her, “Since grandpa is here, let’s have lunch together.”

The old man slightly nodded his head. He asked Hayden to eat more, but he didn’t move his chopsticks at all.

Hayden braced herself to eat, and she felt really uncomfortable eating with them.

Hayden was afraid that the old man would suddenly ask some strange questions. She ate silently so that the old man could neglect her presence.

However, things wouldn’t always go the way she want them to.

“I already knew about last night.”

Hayden directly choked on the braised pork in her mouth when he said that. Her face turned really red. She wanted to say something, but she couldn’t do it. She could only hold the glass of water and kept pouring water down her throat.

“Our Joseph isn’t an irresponsible man. I’ll let him give you an explanation.”

When he said that, the old man gave Joseph a fierce stare, “Do I still have a say now?”

“Grandpa, it’s really fast for you to know about this.”

Joseph steadily took a glance at Mark.

The old man had received the news so quickly and arrived the next morning. It was obvious to conclude who was the one who told his grandfather.

After being stared by Joseph, Mark immediately looked down. There was still no expression on his face.

Hayden here had finally swallowed the braised pork down her throat. She wanted to shake her hands and said no.

Before she could speak, the old man said to Joseph, “By the way, now that you have settled down with Hayden, you should hurry up and sort things out with Viola. My head hurts whenever I see any of those erroneous news.”

It was settled?

Hayden raised her head and she was dumbfounded. What did they settle while she was still chocking on a piece of braised pork?

She and Joseph?
