Chapter 54
Mayra's expression fell. She deliberately slowed her pace as she walked into the school, unsure whether Gordon had seen her.
She finally entered the classroom and took her seat when the bell rang.
Emily was humming a song, seemingly in a good mood. She took out her books and fished out a piece of candy for Mayra. "I bought this ginger candy yesterday. It's delicious. Don't let the teacher catch you."
"Thanks."
As the class monitor, Emily led the reading session on the platform. Mayra noticed that she looked particularly diligent today. In the past, she would've been dozing off on the platform by this time.
The image of Emily getting off the bus with Gordon lingered in Mayra's mind. Would Gordon and Emily still end up together? If she got in between them, she would become a homewrecker. That was the last thing she wanted.
The morning classes ended, and the students began filing out of the room for a short break. Packing her books, Emily finally struck up a conversation with Mayra, "Aren't you going for a break?"NôvelDrama.Org content rights.
Mayra shook her head. "I ate this morning."
Emily nodded in response, her smile unwavering as she continued, "Oh yeah, I saw you this morning when I got off the bus. What did you wanna tell Gordon? Shall I pass on the message to him later?"
It seemed like they'd gotten so close that passing messages to each other occurred naturally to Emily.
Mayra clenched the edge of her textbook, causing the paper to crease. "It's fine. Go and have your break. I'm going to review the content for the upcoming class."
Emily sprang up when she saw someone passing by the window. She rose in haste. "Alright, I'll get going now."
She dashed out of the classroom and caught up with Gordon. "The methods you taught me did work! Are you free tonight? Or I can come over to your place as well."
Mayra felt like her heart had been shattered to pieces. She felt like tearing her book apart.
Gordon was the biggest liar ever.
The students gradually returned from the break. Nina's class was the first they had after the break, and she had never been particularly warm toward Mayra.
However, she didn't criticize Mayra regarding her absence at the parent-teacher meeting last Friday. A wide smile spread across her face as she praised Mayra in front of the whole class.
"Mayra has shown significant improvement this time. You should all learn from her. She made remarkable progress in the mock test, ranking first in the class and top ten in the whole grade.
"From now on, there'll be two student tutors in our class. Boys, you can go to Sean while girls can seek Mayra's assistance.
"Also, here's the certificate, prize money, and other prizes..."
Sensing the doubt of her peers weighing down on her, Mayra stared at the items on her desk in silence.
"It's impossible. She ranked seventh
from the bottom in the entrance
exam last time, but now she's suddenly in the top ten of the entire grade. Who knows whether she cheated?"
"Exactly! If she cheated on her exams, how dare she have the audacity to accept these things?"
"You can't possibly rank in the top ten in the whole grade even if you cheat. I bet she stole the test papers."
