Shouldn't Have Kissed You

Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Maya walked in her office after a three hour operation. To say she was tired would be understatement

for her. She took off her coat and placed it on the seat that was only separated by her table from hers.

She walked to the mini fridge in her office and picked up a bottle of cold water. She needed it after all.

Maya sat on her seat think of the operation.

She had saved a life today. No, it wasn't her, it was the God whom she worshiped. He was always

guiding her hands when she went to do what she knows the best.6

That's why before they do anything, she always made sure that she has prayed to her Heavenly

Father. He was the one in control, always and He never ashamed her. Never.

That's why when she saw a family member or a friend thanking her for saving their loved ones life, she

would tell them to thank the Almighty for He was the healer and not her.

Maya took the glass she had poured herself water to her lips when she heard her door being knocked.

She gave herself a moment to swallow it before she answered a come in to the person.

The door opened and in walked a lady who was in her late thirties. Maya recognize her as the wife of

her patient and smiled at her before asking her to have a seat. She looked at her dumped coat on the

opposite chair and felt ashamed.

"Please forgive my mess," she began still looking at the white coat.

The woman just smiled at her with an understanding smile. She did, after all it's her husband who had

been in ER for three hours. And those hours where hell for her. She couldn't help but get worried for

her husband.

"It's okay," she kept her smile on her face,"I do understand, I just wanted to know a few things about

my husband."

Maya pulled a file that was placed the opposite side of her and opened it. She had had the same file for

a month now and she could say that everything was much better than before.

"To be honest," Maya said looking up. "It's still early to say anything about your husband right now. We

have taken the swelling from his head and right now the blood can be pumped well. As for the pain, we

will wait till he gains conscience ness for us to tell the percentage of it.

"But don't worry. Everything will be alright. It's a good thing that you brought him here the moment he

began to complain his head paining all the time. With the severance that he will have here and the

medication, that we will prescribe to you, he will be in a good shape before you know it."

"Thank you so much Dr. Maya," She thanked wiping away her tears,"I don't know what I would have

done without you."

Maya smiled at her and got up from her seat, "give the thanks to God, because He was the one guiding

my hands," she rubbed her back with one hand and the other took a sachet from her table and handed

her, "here, now stop crying."

"How can I not thank you?" She asked wiping away the tears from her cheeks, "you just got married

yesterday and you should be on your honeymoon and yet you're her saving lives like nothing happened

yesterday."

Maya felt bad. Yes, she was there saving lives as if yesterday never happened at all. In fact, she had

forgotten that the moment she walked in the ER. Was she doing something bad? Was it okay for her to

forget?

night with nothing to cover her body. To forget that she had been promised hell instead of heaven. To

forget that her life was now a game of chess and she couldn't do anything to stop it. Was it wrong?

She wanted to scream at her misfortune. To scream at herself for being such a pusher. A weakling for

that matter. For letting herself make people think she was happy when in real life she was never. For

always giving fake smiles and making them look like real ones. She did want to do that. Scream at the

top of her lungs.

What was her husband doing? Did he even drink the cup of coffee that she made for him? Did he even

for a min second feel sorry for the way he treated her? Did he even care if everything was going well

with her? Because to her, she did.1

She cared if he had breakfast before going to work. If his day was going as he wanted it to be like. If he

smiled that day and a genuine smile. She did care if he was happy that his business was a success as

hers was. She did care if someone thanked him as she was being thanked.4

She cared because from yesterday he had become her husband. Hers to respect and obey. Her to take

care of and to never give up on him. Hers to always support him in every decision that he made. Her

husband.6

Maya still smiled at her patient's wife, "c'mon, the most important thing in my life is to save lives," she

moved back to her seat,"think about you're husband well being for now and not my honeymoon.

Okay?"2

The woman smiled at her and got on her feet, "I think you're right," she took her handbag,"can I go and

see him please?" she asked with a hope voice.

"Sure," Maya closed the file, "for now, only his wife."

"Thank you doctor," she said turning to walk away but not before Maya said a welcome.

Maya downed the rest of the water and took her cellphone. She light it and found three missed calls

and five messages. She opened the key lock to check who had called and left the messages.

One thing she was sure of, they weren't from her dear husband. She didn't have his number and she

doubted that he had hers too. Too much of a marriage if you asked her.

Maya opened her laptop and called her best friend. She was the one who had called and left the

messages asking her to call her back when she got time. At least she would speak after a whole one

week.....

"Hey beautiful," Maya was cut shot before she could travel down to the road of memories.

Maya looked at her friend who was on a bed with messy hair. Of course, she was lazing around while

her on the other hand, she was all sweating. She looked at the must be a comfortable bed and missed

hers. She did know how long she was going to sleep on the cold floor herself. Maybe for a month or

two or a year or maybe till her last breath.....

Her friend noticed the frown on her face and she wished that she was there for her. She had missed

her wedding because of a damn conference that had to be the same week as her friend's wedding.

It wasn't fair that her friend continued to suffer and she could do nothing to protect her. For crying out

loud, she had known Maya since they were at kindergarten although by then they hadn't been friends

but she still knew her.

"I don't like it when I talk to you and you're frowning," she said sad,"it kinda makes me want to murder

everyone around you."3

Maya smiled at her friend, "sorry Kayle," she apologized smiling at her, "I can see over seas is treating

you well."

Kayle laughed at her friend who attempted to sound happy but failed at it but she wasn't about to tell

her that.

"Ooh, thank you!" she exclaimed, "the one week I've been away isn't doing you any bad yourself.

Guess what I'm reading right now?"

"Kay," she called in a scolding manner," you can't be reading porn at this time of the day, are you?"

"C'mon Virgin Mary," she complained, "I'm not, I'm actually reading a magazine with you and your

lovely husband on the front page. God, I never knew you were this famous myself."

Lovely husband, Maya thought. How lovely of her to think so when she knows the truth. And how on

earth did her wedding pics reach over seas? Was Chris that much famous? To an extent that his pics

would be on the front page in every damn magazine in the world.

Just then, the door was knocked,"just hold on a minute Kay," she looked at her friend who nodded her

head," come in," she said looking up at the door.

Her personal assistant walked in with red roses. She hated red roses herself. At least the person who

sent them could have asked before he or she sent the flowers. Not even her patient made that kinda

mistake. It's like everyone knew she loved white roses and not red.1

"They came for you," she said handing her the roses,"they're red, too bad but they're roses and roses

are roses if you ask me. They all smell the same, may it be black, white or red or any other colour if

there is."4

That was her personal assistant if you asked her, "thank you," she smiled,"and please close the door

behind you."

"Wow!" she heard her friend exclaim,"they're beautiful, too bad you don't like red."2

"Please, don't be like her," Maya said referring to the person who just walked out.

Kayle just smiled at her,"read the note out loudly, I want to know who sent them."

Maya felt a sharp pain when she was taking the letter that was in the middle of the flowers. She pulled

out the note and looked at her thumb. It was bleeding but just a little. She saw consign on her friend's

face but smiled at her.

She pulled the note from the small envelope and began to read it. Not aloud but with her heart and as

she read it, her heart swelled and her eyes widen.

Ouch!! Did that hurt my lovely wife. I know it's just a little pain but we can't start from top, we have to

start from scratch and that little thorn that pieced you was my scratch. As for red roses, so you may

know, I hate red and if you love it, it suites you anyway but I didn't buy to please you. I bought them for

you to show you how your heart will bleed everyday. Just like your finger is doing right now. But small

amount of blood, but a massive one. Good day Jezebel.5

She couldn't hold the tears back anymore. She just let the flow with her friend watching and not being

able to hold her and rub her back to comfort her.

To Maya, that was just but a scratch just as he had promised on the note. This was the beginning of her

end. The only question was, was she ready for her down fall?2
