Chapter 154
Chapter 154
The stuff she said next… Letitia could’ve called it.
Shela was definitely gonna spill the beans to Mom about the miscarriage, how it happened, and how miserable Letitia’s been. She would then go all out to embellish the story and kept poking the bear.
It turned out that Shela went and told Mom the hard truth.
Mom couldn’t handle such a brutal reality, that’s why she passed out and ended up in emergency care.
This kind of truth? Forget Mom, even Letitia couldn’t handle it.
She took off her headphones and packed them away carefully.
Outside the window, it was all sunshine and rainbows, but Letitia’s heart was freezing cold.
She stepped out of the Ramirez Group, the warm sun on her skin, but it couldn’t thaw her heart.
Letitia felt like a walking corpse.
Who would’ve thought that guy from that night would be Elgin? The baby she was carrying was a part of the Ramirez family bloodline.
It was so outrageous and absurd, yet an undeniable fact!
Letitia stopped dead in her tracks on the bustling street and was at totally lost. She seemed to have no clue what her life was even about anymore.
She hailed a cab.
“Where to, miss?”
“I…”
Right, where was she supposed to go? No home left, Dad’s in jail, Mom’s in ICU.
She was just a lost soul.
“To the sanatorium,” she finally decided to visit her mother one last time.
By her mother’s side, that’s where she felt a tiny bit of safety.
Meanwhile, Vidonia headed back to the office.
Muttering to herself as she walked in, ‘That Samson is such a piece of work, always popping up at the worst times. Be nice to him, and he thinks I’m weird. Get tough, and he says that’s the real me…”
She looked up and noticed Letitia wasn’t there.
“Where is she?” She looked all around, “Why did she leave? Where could she have gone?”
“Letitia?”
Vidonia dashed to the employee area, only to find Letitia’s desk empty.
Weird.
She just vanished after listening to the recording? Did she uncover some secret?
At the Sanatorium.
At Letitia’s pleading, the doctor agreed to let her into the ICU, but only for ten minutes.
For her, ten minutes were enough.
She knelt beside the bed, her cheek against her mother’s hand, “Mom…”
Tears started falling the moment she spoke.
By her mother’s side, she could pour her heart out and release all her pent-up emotions.
‘Why did it have to be Elgin’s baby… Why?”
“He wants me to get pregnant again, but what he doesn’t know is that he already killed our baby with his own
hands.” NôvelDrama.Org owns © this.
“Mom, what do I do now? How can I face Elgin? How shattered will he be when he knows the truth?”
“If I had known earlier that the baby was Elgin’s… Maybe you and Dad wouldn’t have suffered so much. For the baby’s sake, the feud between the Ramirez and Sanders families could’ve been put on hold.”
“I’m such a failure, a disgraceful daughter. I still haven’t uncovered the truth about Marcel Ramirez’s death and even dragged Walden into this mess.”
Ten minutes flew by.
Letitia’s tears had yet to dry, hanging on her cheeks as she reluctantly left her mother’s bedside.
“Your mother’s condition is currently stable,” the attending physician said. “If all goes well, she can be moved to a regular ward next week.”
“And if things go south?”
“Well…”
“Sorry, I’m being pessimistic,” Letitia replied. “If everything goes smoothly, to what extent can my mother recover?”
After a moment of thought, the doctor said, “She’s of advanced age, and… the delay in getting the right medication has lessened the potential effect. But with proper care, there’s still hope.”
Letitia nodded.
Her phone was buzzing nonstop in her pocket, but she didn’t bother to check it. Right now, she didn’t want to face anyone.
Letitia walked out of the sanatorium, about to hail a cab, when a familiar Mercedes pulled up.
She kept a sharp eye out, watching from the sidelines.
The car stopped, the door opened, and out stepped were…
Hawley and Phedra!
Letitia was taken aback. What were they doing here?
“Hawley, this is the place,” Phedra said. “Elgin moved Letitia’s mother here, and the treatment costs a fortune.
He really spared no expense.”
“Let’s go in and have a look.”
“Alright.”
Phedra agreed, helping Hawley inside.
“Wait!” Letitia panicked, stepping out from behind the tree, “If you’ve got business, talk to me!”
At the sight of her, Hawley frowned in displeasure, “You’re here too, good, saves me the trouble.”
“Yes, I’m here. Don’t bother my mother, she’s still unconscious and can’t take any more stress!” Her face was tense, anxious. Her mother couldn’t afford another setback.
Hawley looked at her with a mix of disgust and impatience, “Seeing you reminds me of that poor child… Letitia you’re so useless! Such a precious child, and you couldn’t even keep it!”
When Hawley had scolded her like this before, Letitia hadn’t cared.
$51
But now, knowing the baby was of the Ramirez bloodline, it hurt to hear those words.
A mix of emotions overwhelmed Letitia.
And Hawley had been right all along… that child was indeed of the Ramirez family.
At the thought of this. Letitia turned to Phedra.
“Why are you staring at me?” Phedra squirmed under her gaze, “I didn’t lay a finger on your kid! I even took you to the hospital for a thorough and costly check-up!”
Letitia said, “You also did a paternity test, right?”
“Yeah.” Phedra admitted, “You tried to steal the test tube, didn’t you? But the one you took was a decoy. I’ve been keeping real stuff needed for the test with me all along!”
“So… you knew the baby was Elgin’s.”
“Of course I know,” Phedra said with a puzzled look, “Didn’t you realize the kid is Elgin’s? After all, you’re not bold enough to have an affair with others!”
Letitia cracked a smile. As she smiled, tears began to well up in her eyes. “Why didn’t you tell me sooner? Why?”
Phedra was even more baffled. “Isn’t it common knowledge? You married Elgin and got pregnant with his kid with the aligned timing… What’s there to tell you?”
Hawley asked, “What? Phedra, have you been keeping secrets from us and running a paternity test or something?”
“Yeah, Hawley,” Phedra replied with an awkward chuckle, “I… I just wanted to play it safe, you know. If the kid turned out not to be of the Ramirez family, Letitia pulled the wool over all our eyes!”
Hawley’s face turned stern and blamed, “Nonsense.”
