MISTAKE 48
Chapter 48: Unreasonable.
“We were married so long; isn’t it a bit distant for you to call me Mr. Shaw every few sentences?” she heard him ask. This question caused her to look up at him sharply. She just realized that all through this night she has not truly looked at him directly. She saw that he looked pale with a slightly dark undereye. He looked sick.
“Are you sick?” She blurted without realizing it. Before she could catch herself, the words had left her mouth. Daniel felt his heart dance. A part of him was convinced that she still cared for him.
“I apologize for prying into your personal matter, Mr. Shaw,” she quickly apologized, She recalled that he did not like her prying into his matters.
“It’s fine. I am surprised you asked, I thought that after our disastrous divorce, you would not bat an eye if I died,” he said, looking pleased.
“I am not that kind of person, but it is normal to think so; after all, Mr. Shaw and I know very little about each other,” she said.
“True, we were mostly strangers. The fault is mine,” he said, and she could not help but frown. What did he mean by this? She wanted to ask, then recalled the words he had said early.
“Besides, I don’t think our divorce was disastrous,” she refuted. She thought it was clean and tidy, just the way he liked it. She thought it was a good decision for both of them.
“Even when divorced, you just because you called about your mother’s death?” he asked, and she paused. She was not sure how he had found out about this, but her emotions, which she had thought had calmed, brewed again.
“We are not familiar with each other. It was wrong for me to have called you and made ridiculous demands such as that. I apologize, I crossed the line,” she said, and he could tell she

was slightly agitated.
“What is wrong is that I did not pick up the call. What is wrong is that I sent divorce papers after your mother died. What is wrong is that I did not think that your call about an emergency was anything to pay attention to. What is wrong is that I was too stupid and arrogant,” he said. As he talked, he stepped closer, forcing her back several steps just to keep the distance between them.
“What did you say?” She had never thought in her life that she would hear these kinds of
words from him.
“That is the most words you have spoken to me at a time. What do you want?” she asked suspiciously. She did not believe that he had any motive for saying all these things.

“I apologize for not being there,” his voice lowered as he spoke.
“Apologize?” She could not believe her ears. What did he mean by this? Daniel Shaw was apologizing to her?
“Yes, L…” he started to say when she stopped him.
“Stop!” She raised her hand and stepped back further from him.
“It is all in the past; Mr. Shaw needs not bring it up anymore
she dismissed whatever words.
he was about to say. She did not want to hear it. It brought back bad memories.
“You don’t forgive me,” Daniel said. Of course she didn’t; what he did was not easy to forgive.
“Why do you say that?” she asked in frustration.
“You used to call me Daniel; now you call me so distantly, in that tone,” he explained. This
made her so frustrated, she ran her hand through her hair and laughed lightly.
“So? I called my husband, Daniel. We are no longer married to each other. If someone listened to you, they may think we had a loving marriage. It was a contract,” she said. Her eyes were not more blank; instead, they were filled with admonishment.
“And do I need to forgive you because you apologized? Mr. Shaw, we were not close. It is normal that you don’t bother if my mother died and threw divorce in my face. I don’t understand what is happening right now. Throughout our marriage, you kept your words close to your chest. They might as well be gold kept and guarded at the bank. But now that we are divorced, you are suddenly saying so many random things,” she said.
“You despise me. It is well deserved.” He nodded with a self–deprecating smile, “I just worried that you left so suddenly.”
Anya, for a second, felt as she looked at his face shrouded in a sad shadow that she might get away with it if she slapped him this moment. But the moment the thought crossed her mind, she let it sink into nothing. She did not understand what he wanted, but his new behavior was starting to annoy her greatly. She took a few steps closer till she was standing close enough
for him to feel her breath.
“Mr. Shaw has always been astute and decisive. This sudden behavior does not look good on you. You should be careful of destroying your image,” she said and walked out of the room in firm steps. Daniel remained frozen the moment she walked closer. She had been so close that he could touch her if he reached out a little. She smelled of roses. It was intoxicating.
James walked in a moment after and saw his frozen figure and guessed that talk did not go well. He walked over and patted his friend on the back.
“You will have to take it slow. Some matters need time,” James said, and Daniel nodded, and they finally left the restaurant. The moment he got to his hotel, Daniel called his contact, whom he used frequently for information.

“Neil, can you investigate a person for me?” he asked.
“Who?” Neil asked.
“Stanley Forest.”
“The CEO of Hammer Games?” Neil asked, making Daniel pause.
“You know him?” He asked, “Is he that popular?”
“Of course, for the past year, he has been growing with that HERACLE technology. He is all the tech and finance sector talk about behind closed doors,” Neil answered.
“Then don’t you think it is odd that I do not know who this is?” Daniel asked, and Neil went
quiet.
“That is oddly suspicious. How did you finally hear of him?”
“He got my wife to sign into one of his projects,” Daniel answered.
“I see…
“I want to know who he has met in the past six months. Do some digging into his company,
too.”
“Sure. I will look into that.” Neil asked.
“Then, can you help me with some research on my wife?” Daniel asked. Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
Chapter 48 Uhrearonable
“I heard you had called me up while I was on holiday this past month; was this about her?”
“Yes, she had left home, and I could not find her, Daniel said.
“I figured it was probably something about your family, since you refused to give it to the other guys. But aren’t you too careful? You could not find her when I was on a holiday but still refused to ask the other guys to work for you. What if something had happened to her outside?” he asked.
“I knew she was not in any danger. If I started an all–out search for her, what do you think would have happened?”
“She would have entered the radar of some idiots. Have you found her, though?” he asked.
“I have found her. While you are at it, help me get a hand on a copy of her contract with Stanley Forest,” Daniel instructed.
“Sure, but why did I hear that you have gotten a divorce?” Neil suddenly recalled this and asked, but Daniel ended the call abruptly. He cleaned and prepared for another sleepless night But the
moment his head touched the bed, he fell into the arms of deep sleep. In his dreams, he held Anya; he kissed Anya.
