Chapter 78: Anya Enters a Coma

“I thought we already agreed to have Selene and Daniel marry; there is no need to go this far.” The old man said, and Ray paused and looked at him with a frown.

“What do you mean by this? When was this agreed?” Ray asked.

The confusion on his face made Old Master Greg pause. Wait. All through the talks about marriage, they never physically met Ray. His eyes shrunk. Had they been played?

“There must be some misunderstanding. I will clear this up soon, please!” the old man shouted. But this only annoyed Ray some more.

“And you dare come to shout? It seems I have played with you too long,” Ray said and turned to walk away.

“Please, Ray, I did not know this. Please, Mr. Shaw…” He no longer dared to call Ray by his first name. But no matter how much he begged, Ray walked away as he was subdued and taken

away.

Daniel had brought Anya back home and put her to bed before going into his office to have a

video call.

When Daniel returned to Anya’s room, he found her lying on the floor convulsing.

Fear like never before rushed into his veins. He hurried to her side and raised an aların.

Within minutes, the whole mansion was awake, and the ambulance was called.

When Wendy and Michael arrived in the room, Intel was in a complete panic, calling to Anya.

The ambulance arrived, and she was taken away.

In the hospital, as the doctors treated Anya behind closed doors, Daniel was losing his mind.

It took a whole hour before she was moved into a room and he could see her.

The harsh fluorescent lights of the hospital’s ICU waiting room cast an eerie glow over Daniel’s face as he stared through the small window into Anya’s room.

She lay unconscious, her chest rising and falling slightly with each shallow breath assisted by the ventilator. Tubes and wires snaked out from under the thin hospital blanket, monitoring her vital signs.

A small bruise had formed on her neck where she had been cut and poisoned, and Daniel felt a fresh wave of rage wash over him as he took in her weak appearance.

“It’s a miracle she’s alive,” the gruff doctor had told him grimly.

“There was something in her. You said she had been drugged. The doctor must have missed something else laced inside. She will need time to wake up,” the doctor informed them and walked away.

Daniel watched the rise and fall of her chest, taking some small comfort that she was still alive.

But a darker part of him burned with an intensity he had never felt before.

He wanted someone to bleed.

A light tap on the waiting room window broke into his thoughts. He turned to see his father,

Michael, and Jerry lingering outside in the hallway.

With one last look at Anya, Daniel stepped out to meet them.

“How is she?” Michael’s face was etched with worry lines.

“Unconscious still…the doctors aren’t sure when or if she’ll wake up,” Daniel said hoarsely. His father put a comforting hand on his shoulder

“Listen, son, you need to stay strong for her right now. Go be by her side; I’ll handle making those bastards pay for what they did.”

The edge had returned to Michael’s voice, the same tone Daniel remembered from his childhood when his father asserted his dominance. But Daniel shook his head. Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.

“No. Not this time. They poisoned her, obviously not to kill her. They want her in one place,, unable to move. This is personal. I want in on making them suffer.”

“Fair enough. Jerry, what do we know so far?” Michael asked Jerry who had gotten the news and hurried over.

“Well, from what I could gather by leaning on a few of my underground sources, it seems the Greg family was behind selling Anya’s information on the underground market a while ago. on on the underground market a while ago. Apparently they were tricked by a promise to marry Selene to

Daniel from a person pretending to be Old Master Rhodes. When we looked into it, we found that they used deep fakes.”

Daniel furrowed his brow in confusion, trying to process this new information. The Greg family had been the ones to sell her information; he understood this. But how could they be easily tricked by a deep fake?

As if reading his mind, Jerry continued, “It is very well known that Selene is in live with you. She would do anything to get rid of your wife. This makes her a good pawn. As for her family,

it was a different matter. It seems Grey had been selling our goods behind our backs for money for a while. They were looking for a way out, so it was easy to trick them into thinking that this was a chance to get out. They probably thought you would not harm them if Selene was your wife,” Jerry explained.

“So they wanted to get out of their issue and got tricked, but selling Anya’s information was just being vindictive, right?” Micheal said.

What Daniel felt at this moment was beyond anger. He had given too much leeway to the Greg family.

“We are done with them,” he ground out through gritted teeth. “They did not care that she was already my wife and betrayed us.”

Michael put a calming hand on his son’s arm. “And I will handle it, son. Trust me; no one is going to get away with laying a hand on anyone from our family.”

He and his father had one thing in common: they were both fiercely protective of family. He knew that look in the older man’s eye; Michael was a man possessed when it came to protecting his family.

“The Greg family aside, I am going to Angelo City,” Daniel stated.

“You have not gone there for a while; I will see your grandfather first about the Greg Lwill Join you later,” Michael said.

Daniel looked back through the window one more time at Anya’s fragile form. Her ivory skin was pale against the stark white pillowcase.

He tried to envision her warm smile, the brilliant eyes that were always filled with caution…

“Don’t worry, baby,” he murmured. “I’m going to make them regret ever laying a finger on

you.”

He turned back to his father and Jerry, his jaw set in grim determination.

“I will have the ward locked down while I am gone. Only family can get through.”

The hospital room was eerily quiet; the only sounds were the soft beeping of the machines. monitoring Anya’s vitals. Wendy sank into the chair beside the bed, taking her daughter–in- law’s limp hand between her weathered palms.

“Oh, Anya,” she murmured, with worry in her eyes. She was worried about the girl, but also worried about her son. If something happened to her, Carmine would not recover.

Anya’s face was pale and slack, a faint line of tears that had long dried, probably from the time she was convulsing.

She reached out and gently brushed a stray lock of hair from Anya’s brow.

“You have to wake up, dear,” Wendy pleaded. “Daniel needs you. If you don’t wake up, he will burn down this hospital.”

But there was no response–no flutter of eyelids or twitch of fingers. Just the steady rhythm. of the machines doing the work of keeping Anya alive.

Wendy’s jaw tightened as her grief transformed into smoldering anger at those responsible for reducing her daughter–in–law to this vegetative state.

A daughter–in–law that was hard to come by in the first place.

As per Daniel’s instructions before he had departed with Michael and the others, Anya had been moved to a secure wing of the hospital.

He wasn’t taking any chances after all that had happened to her. Two burly guards stood

sentry outside the door, assault rifles held at the ready,
