The Billionaire's Regret

Chapter 97

Chapter 97

When Ivy noticed the fake native, she breathed a sigh of relief. The heavy downpours turned the night into a freezing abyss. As they were drenched in the rain, the leaves around them rustled loudly. During the storm, the sound of the waves crashing and the wind howling made it seem like something out of a nightmare. Ivy was drenched from head to toe and shivered in the freezing weather. The chill seemed to penetrate her bones. She’d just come to a halt to catch her breath when she heard a flurry of heavy footsteps close behind them. In the dim light, everything was crystal clear. Ivy and the fake native exchanged a glance. They kept running without stopping. The cold rain slashed her face like a knife. After only a few minutes, she felt as if her heart was about to leap out of her chest, and her legs came to a halt, listening in on her thoughts. The surroundings were dark, and it was impossible to see anything aside from the rain. The ground was littered with branches and leaves, but they had no choice but to keep running, even if it meant crawling! The indigenous people pursued them relentlessly, even throwing branches at them. Ivy’s back was hit several times, but she simply gritted her teeth and got back up to run. Her hands were riddled with wounds from twigs and thorns, but she was numb to the pain. The fake native in front of her moved quickly and with agility. His body was agile, and he possessed exceptional athletic abilities. Ivy did not dare to be late and fled for her life. The sounds coming from behind them were getting closer. If the indigenous people caught up with them, it would be their end! Her foot entangled in a tree trunk, hurling her to the ground. When a jolt of pain shot up her elbow, she couldn’t help but scream. The fake native turned around. Ivy clenched her teeth and drew herself up. “Don’t worry! I’m fine! Run!”

Her foot suddenly lost its footing after she stepped over the tree trunk, and she found herself tumbling! Her hands frantically reached out to grab anything she could. She was able to wrap a flexible vine around her arm. Her entire body hung from that vine, and her hands were already bleeding from the thorns that lined it. Ivy felt her body trembling. Her body had reached its limit, and she was well aware of it. The indigenous people’s sounds behind her were sinister and terrifying, like a death knell for her. The chill swept through every pore of her body, and she felt hopeless for the first time in her life. However, the next thing she knew, the fake native who should have fled appeared in front of her. He reached out and grabbed her arm, yanking her from the trap. It was as if she had been given a lifeline. Before Ivy could sigh in relief, she subconsciously returned her gaze to the trap and noticed countless thick branches shaved into sharp spikes in the pit. Her hair stood on end for a split second. It was a trap set by the indigenous people. She would have lost everything if she hadn’t grabbed onto the vine on this freezing rainy night. The man yanked her away. “Run!” Ivy wiped her face, unsure whether it was from the rain or her tears. There was no time to ponder. She could only move stiffly and numbly forward. She couldn’t go back. She couldn’t stop herself. She couldn’t even take a breather. After running through this jungle section, there were more paths ahead of them. To confuse their pursuers, the fake native turned a few corners in front of them. The sound of footsteps behind them slowly faded away. The fake native finally came to a halt and looked back at her. Ivy was wholly drenched and muddied under the dark moonlight in the bustling shadows, and her face was streaked with tears. It took her less than thirty seconds to transition from silence to sobbing, weeping, and then full-

fledged bawling. Ivy had finally found the strength to cry the tears she had held back for days. Her cries were hysterical, but they were drowned out by the rain and didn’t seem out of place. The fake native knelt in front of her. His voice sounded a little frightened. “Don’t cry...” Ivy felt much better after letting it all out, but now was not the time to unwind. They couldn’t stay here for long because the indigenous people would notice their tracks at any time. “Let’s go,” she said softly and hoarsely, wiping her face. The rain washed away the fake native’s face painting, revealing his true face. Defined features, flawless skin, the appearance of someone of mixed heritage, and such bright eyes. He was even more attractive than Sebastian. At first glance, he appeared to be a handsome young man. This person must be a divine gift! The man was taken aback by how quietly Ivy gathered her emotions, but he still walked ahead to lead the way. “You’ll be safe in no time. Don’t worry.” Ivy’s heart was filled with a million questions after calming down. She had no idea where to begin. “Can you tell me how you got here? What happened to your clothes? Can you tell me how long you’ve been here?” The man chuckled. In the darkness of the night, it was a soft and clear sound. He had a sly grin on his face. “I’m not going to tell!” Ivy was rendered speechless. On the other hand, his relaxed demeanor made her feel a lot better. Ivy looked at her only partner in front of her and felt an unfathomable bond with him. She smiled as she followed him and touched his bare arm, painted with a rainbow of colors. It was rough and firm, but she did not touch him in order to take advantage of him. “Do you feel cold? Would you like a coat?” As she spoke, she moved to remove her tightly wrapped windbreaker. There was no other interpretation. She was simply concerned that he would perish from frostbite.

“No need,” the man said as he stopped her from moving. “I’m not cold at all.” Ivy didn’t press the point because she suddenly remembered Trigg was still in her pocket. “My name is Ivy Morgan. How do I address you?” The man’s back stiffened slightly when he heard that name. “Is Sebastian Morgan your brother?” he asked as he turned around. Ivy’s shocked eyes shone brightly. “Are you familiar with my brother? You know who I am?” The man nodded and inquired further. “Wasn’t it you who was always on the hot topic some time ago?” Ivy was stunned once more. “You’ve only just arrived?” After all, the trending topics were only a few months old. The man smiled and continued to pull the branches in front of him away. His tone of voice was light and brisk. “Yeah. I arrived a month before you.” He had only recently arrived, but he quickly became friends with the indigenous people and even became one! Ivy would not have noticed him if it hadn’t been for those shoes. What a feat! He was truly gifted! Ivy admired him a great deal. Her heart then sank slightly. She felt a boulder pressing down on her chest, heavy and depressing. He’d been here for a month, but nothing had been saved, so when would she be able to leave this hellhole? “What’s your name?” She inquired, piquing her interest. “Vince Reed,” he says. The man sighed helplessly and quickened his stride. “Reed? Are you related to Wyatt Reed?” “How could I be related to such a rich guy like him?” the man said after a two-second pause, “I’m just an explorer on my own.” Ivy nodded. After all, none of the wealthy young men she knew would be foolish enough to come here and be killed. When she heard his last name, she couldn’t help but think of that person. She was curious as to what he was doing now. Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.

On a cruise ship, a thousand nautical miles away. Hundreds of helicopters hovered and whirred above. Drones surveyed the seafloor for material and signs of life. Special military survey equipment was even used, but nothing was discovered. Cooper dialed Sebastian’ number. “Wyatt Reed has returned home.” “Okay.” Reed Mansion. The family doctor exited Wyatt’s room. Don Reed rushed up to inquire. “How is Wyatt getting along?” The family doctor sighed and spoke solemnly. “Mr. Reed went several days without sleeping. His body has been completely depleted and has reached its limit. Now all he needs to do is rest. The most important thing is to replenish his nutrition.” Don Reed nodded and hurriedly ordered the brewing of various expensive tonics. Eva snarled from the side, “That jinx Ivy Morgan only knows how to harm my son! Thankfully, heaven delivered justice and killed her. Otherwise, I’m not going to let her off the hook!” Don Reed locked his gaze on her. “Shut your mouth! Do you think the Morgans will let you go if word gets out?” “This is our home,” Eva mumbled in embarrassment. Don Reed’s eyes were heavy as he pondered, and Eva took advantage of the opportunity to speak. “Ivy is no longer alive, Dad. Can we bring Piper back?” Don Reed didn’t even bother to look at her. He thought it was absurd that this woman with no IQ was his daughter-in-law. “Do you think this is appropriate, given what happened to the Morgan family? Are you attempting to convey your eagerness to commemorate Ivy’s death to the Morgans? Will you be able to handle it if Cooper Morgan starts targeting our company?” Eva’s face flushed, and the disappointment in her eyes was visible.

“Don Reed, your grandson is awake….” Don Reed entered the room as soon as he heard this.
