Chapter 48 The Three Chefs
Chapter 48 The Three Chefs
Against the expectation, Ashley arrived before Amara and Conrad. Ashley turned around to look at
Conrad with a big smile on her face. "It's intriguing. Waiters in a western restaurant wear Chinese
traditional ancient costumes."
Whereas, Ashley stopped smiling when she found that sexy Amara, in a formal suit, was behind
Conrad.
"Your girlfriend?" asked Ashley.
"She is my assistant." Conrad answered.
"She is pretty." said Ashley aggressively. Women remained concentrated on something kind of queer.
Conrad didn't continue the conversation and let her seat herself, because Conrad found that the three
interviewers had already arrived. Belongs © to NôvelDrama.Org.
They all dressed entirely in white chef uniform, and they were all in their thirties and forties, which were
in the prime of their life.
Conrad shook hands with each of them warmly. And Amara and Ashley just nodded at each other.
"Hi, I'm Ashley. A friend of Conrad. Nice to meet you." greeted Ashley.
There was slight change in Amara's face when she found that Ashley got a curvy figure and was very
classy. Particularly, Amara considered that Ashley got acquaintance with Conrad. Nevertheless, Amara
soon adjusted her state of mind. "Hi. My name is Amara. I'm the assistant of Conrad." beamed Amara.
"You look fabulous."
"So do you."
Women complimented each other on their appearance, while the interview was started, and Conrad let
them show their cooking skills.
The rule of interview was simple, which required each all of them to cook three dishes. The arena of
the interview was the kitchen of the premises. Amara had had restaurant manager make preparations
for the various commonly used ingredients of Chinese cuisine.
Conrad, Amara and Ashley observed the working process of interviewers. They were all expert in this
field, and were proficient in handling of all kinds of ingredients. All of the chefs were showing their
cutting skills generously, as if they were carving various beautiful artworks.
"Awesome!" Amara's face lit up with surprise. She was able to cook, but her cooking was in the
medium range. There was an enormous gap between them.
"Not that special." Ashley downplayed the scene of the performance.
Conrad could understand it, because her family members had been chefs for generations.
Conrad considered that these chefs were exceedingly similar to those on the TV, and at the same time
he was unable to pick holes in them.
The time limit was one hour. Conrad, Amara and Ashley were chatting while they waited for the
interviewers. Ashley certainly knew the benefits set by Conrad, which provided food and
accommodation, and the salary depended on the interviewers who succeeded in the interview.
"Such a well-paid job. My salary will also be one million a year." said Ashley jokingly.
"Sure. The premise is that you are capable of this work. As far as I know, you can merely make instant
noodles."
"It was before. I can turn to my dad and grandpa for advice. And I am bound to surpass them." Ashley's
words were filled with pride.
Smiling without a word, Conrad considered it just a boast. A long-term training was a necessity of a
professional chef. Otherwise, what was the use of culinary schools? As for the cutting skills and
bumping spoon, a chef was able to cook a dish that not only looked good, smelled better but also
tasted the best. All these elementary skills required a long-term and professional training.
After an hour, all the chefs finished their cooking. Nine dishes were served one by one. Conrad invited
Amara and Ashley to taste them together.
The three judges all picked up their chopsticks to sample the dishes.
There was Sweet and Sour Mandarin Fish, Wine Soaked Shrimp and DongPo Pork, tasted divine.
Moreover, one of the chefs made shredded potatoes that were a home-style cooking, but it was a test
of cutting skills, which all the chops were of uniform size so that it tasted delectable. It was quite
scrumptious.
After tasting a dish, Conrad invariably rinsed his mouth with water and continued to the next dish.
Conrad scored marks for them and exchanged the ideas with two women. Amara thought that was
such a close-run race and anyone was able to capable of doing the job.
"OK, the interview is over. Please go back to wait for our notification."
Conrad tended to make a decision after careful consideration as none of them impressed Conrad with
the dishes, though they all were well versed in cooking.
Conrad presented gifts in gratitude for their dishes before they left. Therefore, the chefs all had good
impression on Conrad.
Conrad, Amara and Ashley weren't discussing about which one they wanted to recruit until the chefs
left.
Eventually, it was a chef of Cantonese cuisine that got the position. Maybe the dishes he made were in
accordance with the taste of Amara and Ashley.
In comparison, a chef of Szechuan cuisine got the lowest points. It was not that his food was not
flavorful, but because they were all spicy food. Neither of the two ladies could eat spicy food, so the
score was not high. Conrad felt that the score was subjective so he didn't come to a conclusion
immediately.
