we couldn’t save
Marco immediately slammed on the brakes of his car, his eyes widening as he was taken aback by the shocking scene ahead. Letta’s body lay sprawled on the hard asphalt, causing Marco to freeze before quickly rushing out of the car with several passing guards. They were startled to see Letta lying there, her white dress now soaked in blood.
Marco ran towards Letta, trying to embrace her while calling out her name with a panicked expression. However, Letta didn’t respond, even as Marco attempted to wake her. Seeing Letta’s blood-stained hands, Marco glared angrily at the guards around him. He ordered them to prepare the car immediately.
“For anything’s sake, hurry! If anything happens to Letta or her unborn baby, I will destroy all of you!” Marco yelled at the guards, who then helped open the car door. He placed Letta in the car and sat, embracing her, feeling her cold and sweaty body.
“Step on the gas! Don’t be slow! If any of that happens, I will kill all of you!” Marco shouted at the car driver. The car finally stopped in front of the nearest hospital. Marco took Letta inside and handed her over to the nurses.
“Please, take care of her! Call the best doctor to save her and the baby!” Marco said in a panicked tone, as people continued to watch the surroundings. This incident felt so familiar to Marco, recalling the moments when he took Letta to the hospital a few weeks ago due to stomach cramps. However, this time, Marco’s anxiety and worry were much greater. Even now, his body trembled and his heart pounded, disturbed by the smell of blood that stained his suit and hands.
Marco ran after Letta as she was wheeled into the emergency room, insisting on accompanying her, but was held back by the nurses.
“Sorry, I can’t. You have to wait outside for the safety of your wife’s life so that we can also handle it quickly,” the doctor said, causing Marco to sigh in annoyance. Marco had no choice but to wait in the waiting room with an anxious feeling. He then glanced at some guards who had accompanied Letta to the hospital.
“I want you to destroy the car that just hit that woman, and also who was driving it?” Marco asked, making one of the guards, who looked pale, approach.
“It was me, sir,” the guard said.
“From now on, don’t show your face in front of me again,” Marco said coldly, but threateningly, causing the guard to not even be able to return the sharp gaze of his employer. He immediately left, and some guards immediately carried out Marco’s orders to get rid of the car they had been driving earlier.
Marco didn’t know how long he had been waiting in the waiting room. He didn’t even fix his appearance, didn’t wash the blood that was sticking to his hands and his suit. Until finally, someone’s voice made Marco turn towards them. Helena and Edward were seen walking towards him.
“What actually happened to her?” Helena asked with a panicked expression, looking at Marco.
“Then whose blood is this?” Helena asked again.
“She’s inside. We have to wait. How is she doing?” Marco said without much more talk, making Helena want to speak up again, but Edward stopped her, shaking his head. Edward seemed to know the current condition of his son. Although Edward knew what plan Marco would do to Letta, of course, who wouldn’t be worried when something happened to the mother and the promise.
“Alright, Mom, let’s let Marco calm down first,” said Edward, finally prompting Helena to choose to sit right next to Marco. They remained silent for a while. Edward and Helena tried to accompany their son for a while before they had to leave for the unfinished party they had to take care of, which eventually prevented them from staying with Marco any longer, until finally the doctor came out of the room wearing their typical attire, causing Marco to immediately walk towards them.
“How is it? What happened? Are they okay?” Marco asked.Content is © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
“Are you her husband?” the doctor asked, to which Marco nodded.
“Her condition is very weak, and she has lost a lot of blood. It’s a very dire condition. I don’t mean to scare you, but we have tried our best to give our patients the best care. But, I’m sorry, we couldn’t fight against fate,” the doctor said, causing Marco to look at them with a questioning gaze.
“Can you just get to the point?” Marco said, not wanting any more beating around the bush.
“Your wife is safe, although her condition is still critical, but we couldn’t save the fetus inside her. The condition was too weak, especially considering that her pregnancy needed to be monitored. The impact on her abdomen and the resulting bleeding made it impossible for us to do anything more,” the doctor said, leaving Marco feeling like he had been struck by lightning. He couldn’t even do anything. His ears were ringing, and his heartbeat was pounding, making his chest feel tight.
“I can pay any amount, but please bring the baby back. I want the baby to come back to life,” Marco said, causing the doctor to fall silent, observing Marco’s expression.
“This isn’t about money. This is truly beyond our capability, so forgive us. And may you and your family have the strength to accept it,” the doctor said before leaving Marco alone. Marco then roughly wiped his face, trying to normalize his heavy breathing.
“The doctor was just joking, right? It’s impossible for my flesh and blood to be that weak. They must be holding on,” Marco murmured, as if convincing himself that everything was fine, that the doctor was just spouting nonsense.
“I haven’t even introduced myself as his father yet. How could he just go like that?” Marco said, turning back to the room where Letta was being treated.
