What Separates Me and You

Chapter 280

Chapter 280

Chapter 280 Are You Trying to Kill Your Husband

However, Lewis didn’t allow Josephine time to think. He let go of her, got out from under the sheets, picked up the clothes Conrad brought him, and took off the hospital gown.

He started changing right before Josephine.

Josephine’s gaze never left him. She saw the bandage around his chest after he took off his shirt.

Conrad was right; Lewis was injured, and his injuries were quite severe.

She was deep in her thoughts when Lewis suddenly glanced at her. “Like what you see?”

Josephine snapped back to reality, and her cheeks flushed. She immediately averted her gaze. Then, she heard a click as Lewis buckled on his belt.

Lewis put on his shirt and sat beside her, turning her face toward him. “I’m the one being seen naked, so what are you feeling shy for?”

They were sitting so close to each other that any movement could cause their lips to touch.

Josephine’s heart started beating rapidly. She turned her head, trying to avoid his gaze. She heard a faint chuckle. Lewis asked, “Have you forgotten about our marriage as well?”

Josephine was stunned. She subconsciously turned to face him, and their lips met in unerring unity.

Josephine’s eyes widened, and she tried to rise, but a hand wrapped around her waist and pulled her back.

Josephine was frantic.

The emotions in her were indescribable. She only knew she felt uncomfortable with this and had yet to adapt to Lewis’ face.

Lewis moved in for the kiss as Josephine sat in a trance, her mind blank.

His kiss started gently and gradually turned domineering.

Josephine clenched her fists intuitively. The pain from her palm woke her up, and she shoved Lewis.

She got up and took a few steps backward. Then, she saw Lewis supporting himself against the bed with one hand clutching his chest. He looked pale.

Josephine panicked. She had momentarily forgotten that he was injured. She was bewildered. Lewis looked up at her weakly. “Are you trying to kill your husband?”

Upon hearing the word “husband,” Josephine’s cheeks started to burn again. She bit her lip and was clueless as to how to retort.

After all, she didn’t know whether or not they really were married based on what he said.

All these years, she was always his sister in the eyes of others and his own.

Josephine thought it unthinkable for him to marry his “sister.”

Besides, she thought she did a good job hiding her feelings for him all these years and kept it a secret from everyone.

Therefore, Lewis’ words caused a whirlpool in her mind, which led to utter blankness.

At that moment, Conrad knocked and entered. “Sir, I’ve …” Conrad saw Lewis’ ashen face and slowed down his voice as he continued, “… contacted Derek.”

Lewis took some time to recover before he stood. He fastened his buttons leisurely as he recovered. “What did he say?”

“He said he’ll do as you say and is fine with anything.”

Derek had let himself go, losing all his desires the moment he gave in. The only thing he wanted now was to settle everything and bring his parents overseas, putting distance between them and Elysium, the hotbed of conflicts.

From the looks of things, he was temporarily unable to beat Lewis, at least for now. But who knew what could happen in the future? Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.

Lewis dressed up and hung his coat loosely over his shoulder. “Ask him to wait for me at Moss Corporation.”

“Yes, sir,” said Conrad. On his way out, he glanced at Josephine. He was doubtful. These two were looking daggers at each other only yesterday. Why did they look as though they had reconciled?

Could this be what the saying “lovers’ quarrels were soon mended” meant?

“Sir, should I get someone to send madam back?”

“No need. She’s coming with me.” Lewis led the way as he spoke. Josephine thought about it and quickly followed.

After they got into the car, Lewis never spoke another word. Josephine kept glancing at him because she heard Conrad call her “madam.”

Lewis told her just now that they were married…

Josephine started feeling anxious again, and her thoughts were in a mess.

She had the feeling of being excluded from the world, excluded from everyone else, even.

Ignorant, she could only understand things from others’ accounts and choose whether or not to believe them.

She lost the privilege of making her own judgment.

They arrived at Moss Corporation in silence.

Derek was waiting for them with a lawyer. Moss Corporation was medium-sized; it was a family-run business with Derek and his family holding the majority of the shares.

Derek’s father was retired and did not hold any shares, while Amelia and Derek together held approximately 60 percent of the shares. Therefore, acquiring their shares was sufficient.

The other shareholders didn’t have a say at all.

As of now, the issue was Lewis had already inherited Alvarez Corp and couldn’t have another company to his name. No one knew how he would manipulate things after they signed the agreement.

Things were similar with Kiran. Before this, Alvarez Corp’s overseas holding group was under his name. Although they had since consolidated the companies, they were halfway through the legal procedures, and Kiran was ineligible to inherit Moss Corporation.

That was why Kiran would use all means to stop Lewis from signing the agreement. After the consolidation of the two companies, Kiran could then receive Moss Corporation’s shares as a shareholder, allowing him to take over Moss Corporation through disguised inheritance.

Derek was far from being able to compete with both Lewis and Kiran, but he could more or less guess why they were after Moss Corporation.

They most likely planned to transfer Alvarez Corp’s assets here.

He held 60 percent of the shares on his own. The other shareholders wouldn’t have a say in anything. Lewis and Kiran could always kick the other shareholders out of the company if they wanted to and take the entire Alvarez Corp as their own.

Therefore, no other company was a better fit than Moss Corporation.

When that crossed his mind, Derek couldn’t help but smirk. How he wished these two would fight each other with more vigor.

The conference room’s door opened just then, and Lewis walked in with the rest.

Seth wasn’t here today; Josephine took his place.

Derek immediately rose and stared at Lewis. “You won’t come up with any tricks this time, right?”

Lewis waltzed in. Conrad proactively pulled a chair for him and another beside him for Josephine.

Josephine glanced at Lewis. The latter had already sat, so she could only follow suit.

Lewis asked, “Where’s the equity transfer agreement?”

Derek tilted his chin, and the lawyer behind him instantly handed Lewis the agreement.

Lewis took it and scrutinized the content.

Everyone’s eyes were on him, but he was as calm as ever, scanning through the pages slowly but surely.

Time kept ticking. Sitting next to Lewis, Josephine felt like she was sitting on pins and needles; she was not accustomed to such an atmosphere.

Just as Josephine felt uneasy, Lewis put down the agreement. “Have you signed it, my dearest brother- in-law?”

Goosebumps crawled all over Derek when he heard the word “brother-in-law.” He snapped, I signed it ages ago. All that is left is your signature. Make haste!”

Lewis smiled and put the agreement before Josephine. “Sign it.”

Everyone’s eyes widened at his words. They looked at him incredulously. Did he just ask Josephine to sign the agreement?
