Chapter 69 You Want a Divorce

Josephine looked at Patrick, and after a few seconds, she took her phone and typed. “If I give you the money, will you bring Mrs. Jinkins back?”

Patrick said with a smile, “Of course! There will be someone to care for her, and she’ll be less of a burden to me. I see that you and my mom are close. I’m sure it won’t be a problem to sponsor some of her living expenses, right?”

Josephine was silent for a while before typing, “Bring Mrs. Jinkins here. Then, I’ll give you the money.”

The smile on Patrick’s face vanished. He said curtly, “She’s old, so she can’t travel much. Give me the money first, then I’ll bring her over.”

Josephine did not believe him. Mrs. Jinkins had once said that his greed knew no bounds. If she were to give him the money this time, and if he not only neglected to bring Mrs. Jinkins back. but continued to use Mrs. Jinkins to extort her for money, she would have no more money to give him.

“Bring Mrs. Jinkins back.”

“You

Patrick was a little infuriated. Indeed, he would not stop at only getting 500 thousand dollars from Josephine

The Alvarez family was such a huge corporation. 500 thousand dollars was nothing to them. It would not be worth his effort if he did not get at least five million dollars.

“If you want to continue bargaining with me, fine I’ll cut to the chase. Give me five million dollars, and I’ll bring her here! If you can’t, we don’t have a deal!”

Josephine was slightly taken aback. She looked at Patrick in disbelief as she did not imagine he would be so demanding

Patrick knew immediately from Josephine’s reaction that she could not put together five million at that moment, so he said, “State a time and day. When you get the money, I’ll bring my mom over.”

Josephine could not give him an answer, because she had borrowed 500 thousand dollars from Avery. Where the hell was she going to get five million dollars from?

Patrick showed her all five of his fingers. “Five days, alright? I’ll come looking for you in five days.”

Josephine typed, “I can’t gather that much money.”

Patrick furrowed his brow. “Who are you trying to fool? The Alvarez family is so rich. How could you possibly not put together five million dollars? Do you think I believe you? I don’t care! If you can’t get me the money in five days, you can say goodbye to my mother for good!”

Patrick spat, got in his car, and drove away.

Josephine’s abdomen was suddenly starting to hurt again. She clutched her abdomen and quickly entered the mansion. She took the medicine that her doctor prescribed, poured herself a cup of water, and swallowed it together.

The medicine did not take any effect. She found some painkillers and popped seven of them. into her mouth like she was eating candy. One or two painkiller pills no longer had any effect on her. She had to have quite a few more to stop the pain.

After taking her medication, she exhaled a long breath when she suddenly felt the world spin. She saw black and passed out.

This time, she had a dream. It was no longer a dream of her past with Lewis. What she saw was only red. The entire world was dyed red. The skies and the earth were of the same oppressive scarlet. Josephine ran through a red fog, trying to escape it.

However, she could not escape no matter how hard she ran. The air grew thinner, and she found it harder to breathe.

“Josie.”

She suddenly heard someone call her from a faraway distance as if it came from the skies. She turned to look where the voice came from and, in the next second, she stepped on nothing and fell.

Josephine opened her eyes widely and gasped for air. She breathed heavily. The suffocating. feeling was too real as if it had happened in real life.

“Did you have a nightmare?”

The voice came from on top of her, making her freeze. She turned to see Seth looking at her

with a smile.

Josephine immediately got up from the sofa. She signed. “Why are you here?”

Seth said with a smile. “I was looking for Lewis. I saw that the door was not closed. I thought he was in, but then I saw that you had passed out, so I waited for a while.”

At that moment, Josephine realized that she was on the sofa. She suddenly recalled what Lewis told her before. When she saw Seth again, chills ran down her back.

If Seth knew everything, yet still feigned ignorance – his pretense was terrifying.

Josephine signed. “Thank you, I’m fine.”

“That’s good,” Seth said with a smile. He shifted his gaze to the packets of medication on the coffee table. “Are you ill, Josephine?”

Josephine snatched the medication and stuffed them into the drawers under the coffee table. She signed, “It’s just a little cold.”

Seth nodded. “You still have to take care of yourself, even if it’s just a small cold. Flu season is no joke.”

Josephine pursed her lips and looked straight at him. It seemed like he was not planning to leave She signed, “Lewis is with Sierra. I don’t think he will be coming back.”

That was her hint for him to leave, but Seth did not seem to get it. He said, “This is his home. How could he not come back? I’ll wait for him then. After all, I’ve been waiting for some time. already.”

Josephine was silent. She had an inexplicable sense of dread and fear whenever she was alone. with Seth, just like the suffocation she felt in her dreams. She even suspected that it was Seth who smothered her just now, trying to kill her.

Josephine found an excuse to get up and pour him some water. When she returned, she sat opposite him, putting some distance between them.

Seth had been smiling all the while His rather long curls covered the side of his face, casting at shadow and making his features look soft and gentle.

He suddenly said, “Josephine, there is something I wonder if it’s alright for me to say.”

Josephine looked at Seth, waiting for him to continue.

He continued, “Lewis spends all his time with Miss Woods. Aren’t you angry?

Josephine was a little taken aback as she did not expect Seth to ask her this.

“Have you ever thought of divorcing him?”

Josephine pursed her lips. She had thought of it countless times, but she had no say in the

matter

Seth continued to say, as if persuading her, “Don’t you want a divorce?” Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.

Josephine found it hard to breathe Seth’s voice was so alluring that her fingers clenched.

Seth looked at her with a penetrative gaze, as if he could see what was on her mind. He smiled. and said, “You do want a divorce.”

It was a statement, not a question.

Josephine turned to look away, not meeting his gaze. His eyes were like the eyes of the devil – they were so tempting they could hypnotize her and drag her to the depths of hell.

Seth did not mind her reaction. He fished a business card out of his pocket. He slid the card. over to Josephine with his fair, slender fingers.

Josephine glanced at the business card from the corner of her eye. There was only a name and a phone number, and no other information.

“You can contact him,” Seth said and stood up. “I’m guessing Lewis is not coming home. I’ll head out then.”

Then, he stood up and left, vanishing from Josephine’s sight in only a short moment. Other than the business card on the coffee table, it was as if Seth had never been there.

Josephine picked up the business card and looked at the phone number in a daze. She clutched the business card so tightly that her knuckles turned white. Her mind replayed every single incident that happened in the past few days.

The unformed fetus in her body turning into mulch; Trash being thrown at Avery on the streets; Mrs. Jinkins being taken away ruthlessly; and what the doctor said to her a moment

ago.

Every incident was like an invisible hand around her throat, choking her. She had to use all her might to gasp for air.

Without thinking, Josephine grabbed her phone and entered the number, adding the person

Her request was approved within seconds.
