Winning Her Heart Back

Chapter 869

Chapter 869 What Do You Want

Emelie didn't bother sugarcoating anything. She nodded. "Yeah, I called him over."

Jodie hesitated before asking, "This is the second time. Are you thinking about getting back together with him?" Emelie's response was sharp and to the point. "There won't just be two times. Whenever I need him, I'll call. But getting back together? Not a chance. Using him to blow off some steam? That works just fine."

Jodie blinked, clearly struggling to process that. "But... Why him? Couldn't you just call someone else? After everything that's happened between you two, how can you still go through with your plan to get back at him?"

Her confusion was clear, and Emelie's casual attitude only made it harder for Jodie to wrap her head around it. Could someone really keep using someone like that and still hold onto their anger?

Emelie saw the besitation in Jodie's eyes but didn't feel the need to explain herself. She knew exactly what she was doing.

After she took a few bites of oatmeal, Emelie looked up. "You weren't too supportive of me being with Wesley before. Was it because you already knew about my past with him?"

Jodie gave a small nod, keeping her head down.

Emelie let out a silent yet amused smirk, although her eyes stayed cold.

Jodie still wanted to ask how Emelie planned to handle the wedding with Wesley, now that it was just days away. However, as an employee, and with two of her bosses involved, it wasn't her place to pry. All she could do was stand back and wait for the storm to pass.

In four days, everything would come to a head. Whether there would be a wedding, how it would unfold, or if it would be called off, they'd all have their answer soon enough.

At 4:00 pm, Emelie figured that it was around 9:00 am in Mercianna. So, it was time to return Wesley's missed call from the night before.

Wesley answered almost immediately.

Emelie's voice was relaxed, as if nothing unusual was happening. "Mr. Cronus, what's up?"

"Do you think Freud roses would be a good choice for the wedding?" His voice sounded rough, as if he hadn't slept at all. Emelie knew him well enough to recognize the signs of a sleepless night.

"Absolutely," she said with casual ease. "Is that why you called?"

Wesley's voice was a mix of urgency and fatigue. "The wedding is in four days. When are you coming back?"

Emelie smiled. "I'll be there, don't worry."

Maybe it was her cool, indifferent attitude or the fact that she wasn't reacting as Wesley had expected, but the usually composed Wesley seemed rattled.

He pressed harder, his voice sharp with frustration, "Aren't you going to say anything to me?"

Emelie's lips curled into a small, knowing smile. "Isn't that what I should be asking you? Wesley, don't you have something to tell me?"

She typically called him "Mr. Cronus" with a teasing lilt, but when it was serious, she dropped the pretense and called him "Wesley".

Wesley's breath hitched, his frustration was evident. "If I could just say it, I wouldn't have been avoiding it all this time."

Emelie's tone was equally cold. "If I could ask, I wouldn't still be holding back."

Wesley faltered, momentarily speechless. "Eme..."

Emelie sighed softly, "Wesley, what do you want from me?"

In the past, whenever they hit a bump in their relationship, Emelie had always tackled it head-on. No issue was ever allowed to fester overnight. She'd confront him directly, face-to-face, and they'd hash things out until everything was clear.

She never let a third party get involved, nor did she rely on impersonal texts or calls that could lead to misunderstandings.

However, this time, was she really expected to fly out to him and confront him about his betrayal, either in a storm of anger or tears? And then what?

Once everything was laid bare, what would be left for them? How would they move forward?

They couldn't. Neither of them could get past it. The only way forward seemed to be splitting up.

She found herself unable to deal with it, and every time she thought about it, she became more agitated.

To her surprise, Wesley threw a question back at her. "Eme, what do you want me to do?"NôvelDrama.Org content.

Emelie shook her head, completely lost. She stared blankly at the ceiling, struggling to find clarity.

Wesley continued, "Is the wedding still on?"

Emelie's laugh was more bitter than she intended. "Do you really have the nerve to go through with it?"

After a moment's silence, Wesley's voice took on a sharp, cutting edge. "Why wouldn't I? If I didn't have the nerve, I wouldn't have kept the truth from you all these years. Eme, we're supposed to be the closest people in each other's lives. Why can't you belong to me?"
