Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 173

Kent tried to get back up and continue his rampage, but the security team swarmed him, pinning him firmly to the ground. They twisted his arms behind him and secured them tightly before hauling him away. Selena was equally shaken. She stayed nestled in the man's arms for about half a minute before her senses slowly returned.

Suddenly, she had a thought and quickly lifted her head.

The man in front of her was refined and elegant. Yet, at this moment, his eyes were filled with genuine concern and nervousness, a far cry from his usual calm demeanor.

It was Dr. Campbell!

A fleeting look of disappointment crossed Selena's eyes, but it vanished almost immediately, replaced by surprise. "Dr. Campbell, what are you doing here?"

As she spoke, she straightened up and stepped out of his embrace.

"I was here for a conference and decided to visit a mentor. I had just left the room when I saw you."

Callum explained briefly and then gave her a thorough once-over. She had minor scrapes on her hands and feet from dodging Kent's attacks. His voice still carried a hint of worry, "Apart from your hands and feet, are you hurt anywhere else?" "No." Selena shook her head gently, feeling grateful. "It's really a stroke of luck."

The thought was still frightening. Kent had been like a madman, and each swing of his knife targeted her vital spots. If she had been hit, she might not have made it out alive.

Callum took a few deep breaths, quickly suppressing any visible emotions, and said, "Let's go. I'll help you take care of those wounds."

Selena didn't want to stick around, so she nodded. "Okay."

Unbeknownst to them, someone in the shadows was capturing every move they made with a camera.

That person was a reporter named Jessica, known in the media for her striking looks and charm. She was often referred to as the "belle of journalism." She and Selena had been classmates in college, both incredibly talented and top of their class, which naturally led to endless comparisons.

Whether in the test or competition, Selena always came out on top, leaving Jessica perpetually in second place and obsessed with surpassing her. Whatever Selena did, Jessica felt compelled to meddle, not to win but to stir up trouble. She refused to let Selena enjoy her success without a hitch.

Later, Selena made a name for

herself with high-profile news story and was personally invited to join Ink & Insight Jessica, driven by determination, also aimed for Ink & Insight. She passed the written exam but failed the interview.

Jessica was convinced that Selena had badmouthed her to the Ink & Insight president. Her frustration turned into fury. She couldn't believe she hadn't been accepted, given her qualifications.

In her anger, she sent her resume to

Daily Dynamite, Ink & Insight's rival, determined to oppose Selena in every way possible. She sabotaged or scooped the stories Selena worked on, their rivalry extending from school into their professional lives.
